Hey folks,
I am looking for the make-up of the current Austrian (not Australian) fire team/squad. As they do not use a SAW-type weapon, I am wondering how their fire teams are organized and armed.
Thanks!

http://www.bundesheer.at/truppendienst/ausgaben/artikel.php?id=1351 seems to indicate a 9-man section, with pistol-armed vehicle driver and gunner, and a 7-man dismounted element (formerly an MG-turppe of 3 plus 4 riflemen, which I imagine is still right). The MG gunner carries a heavy-barrelled assault rifle with bipod, so I don’t know why you think they don’t have a SAW. There is also a rifle with precision sight, an anti-tank launcher, and an underslung grenade launcher, so taking into account the section commander and 2-i-c only one man seems to be an unspecialised rifleman, which makes me think he’ll be the mug walking point.
All the best,
JOhn.

Thanks, John!!

Hmmm, that throws a bit of a wrinkle in my plans to use Eureka Aussies as Austrians.

I think the usage of “schweres MG” here does not translate exactly as HMG in British military English, we would say SF role MG, so I imagine tripods are available if wanted.
All the best,
John.
