I spent the day at Derby Worlds in Leicestershire (figure that out…) and it was a good show. I’ve posted a bunch of game photos on my blog, so please enjoy:

Thanks for that, the first positive comments I’ve heard about the show.

I gave it a miss this year, the extra hour travelling on top of an hour and a half (each way) just didn’t make any sense. Shame, quite liked it at Donnington. Sadly won’t be attending if the venue stays the same next year.

Was it not well received by others? Location is always going to be an issue, what works for some will not work for others. It took us an hour and a half to get there, which was a little longer than I would have liked. But then one of the guys I met up with had travelled for ten minutes.

Of course location is always going to be a thorny issue, what suits some will not suit others. For me two and a half hours each way is a no. I do think Trade Descriptions people should ‘have them’ for calling it Derby Worlds though.

There has been some chatter online about how crowded it was in terms of people not having space to move between games tables, trade stands.
    Too cramped and jammed together.
There have been complaints about the lack of public transport to the venue.

    A few things.

The public transport issue was something I thought about myself actually. The location is pretty far-flung, but I have a car so obviously that didn’t affect our party. It was crowded, for sure, but I just put that down to a lot of people being there. All new venues have their teething troubles I guess.

Well, on the other hand it was WAY easier for me to get there.

It once took 5 hours to get to the show when it was at Derby Uni…

Bit packed. Lots of nice people to talk to tho.

Blimey, 5 hours is dedication! I hope it was worth it!

Well, it wasn’t supposed to take 5 hours. The A1 was blocked, Melton Mowbray had roadworks, several huge tractors on narrow roads…

Yet to hear anything positive from traders; I was supposed to be playing in the FoGR team competition, but had to cry off – feeling a bit better about doing so, now.  Have a read of the Lancashire Games Facebook page for October 9 (the English is a bit odd, possibly he’s still angry?) – the overall impression is not difficult to guess.

(Sorry, I did post a link but it blanks out when you submit the message.)

Hmm, not a happy bunny is he?

I’m guessing anger, small phone, large thumbs and auto’correct’ account for the encryption but it doesn’t sound an ideal venue.

I last went a few (?) years ago at the Uni and really enjoyed it. I presume they had to move from there for some reason?

I first went last century (1980s!) when it was at the Assembly rooms. I preferred the University site.

Well I’m glad work commitments prevented my friends and I from attending. Frankly, apart from Colours, I can’t see myself attending any shows as, IMHO, they aren’t as good as they used to be. Even Colours may fall by the wayside. These days I get my fix from following some very good Blogs and gaming with my friends, when we get chance to meet up.

Any news if Derby is happening this year (2018)? If so where?

Almost certainly not happening. The website only mentions 2017, and I’ve been told that traders have not been sent booking forms and the venue used last year has confirmed that the booking for the event has been cancelled.

    Thanks for the info.

A shame if it is gone for good
