I would like to add a cavalry unit to my Anglo-Egyptian Field Force for the Mahdist Wars. For game balance, it should be a dubious Egyptian unit rather than a crack British one. In 1/72 plastic (or even 20mm metals) there doesn’t seem to be anything.
However, I’ve found these that might do with some converting:

I’m not entirely sure of the appearance of such cavalry (The Mahdist War Source Book is on its way).
This seems to suggest I could make them light blue clad Gendarmes or mid blue & red trimmed Bashi-Bazouks.

I have seen white uniformed & red tarbooshed figures in internet images but I’m not sure if this accurately depicts regular Egyptian cavalry of the period.
Any comment on the figures & how to paint them is welcome.
