I want to get my GF some figures to strat her into games. What do you think would be good that is not historical? Scooby-do, doctor Who,; something like these?

What is she into? I am sure you can find miniatures for many franchises or IPs. Get her miniatures of something she is into.

I would say it depends on which context she can be interested in…

Some ladies prefer female characters – for whom you’ll find a large range at Annie’s Bad Squiddo Games. Some could like 1920’s Pulp adventures, there are suitable minis from Pulp Figures, and Copplestone. For some reason unknown of me (and that I have decided not to enquire about) some ladies (including an ex-GF of mine) like playing fantasy male Dwarfs.

(Um, I’m talking here about ladies who are not otherwise interested in gaming. Female real gamers are probably not different from male real gamers – or that could cause some discussion for which I won’t take any responsability here).

Hasslefree do the Scooby Gang: http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=gang-%26-dog-%285%29~hfn016&category=modern-%26post%252dapoc~modern-non%252dcoms-%2F-civilians

    HFN016 Gang & Dog (5)

And Warlord do Doctor Who: https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/doctor-who

Or maybe hold fire and wait for the Game of Thrones miniatures game to be released.

If you are after figures and a game then something like warlords Exterminate is a good start imo. Both Daleks and cybermen are pretty straight forward to paint, painting guides are in the box with a ready to play game.

There are a range of Discworld minis available although you would need to find some rules you like.

Really depends what interests your GF.

Interest include 6mm WW2, 6mm SciFi, 30mm Old West, DropFleet, Warlords Exterminate and others!

I’ll echo that figures she’s interested in will be a much bigger success.

Assuming a general “nerd culture” fan, I might grab one of those star wars board games like Imperial Assault. The figures are quite cool and paint up great.

There is a Harry Potter miniatures game from Knight Models that is meant to be coming out soon: https://www.knightmodels.com/harry-potter-miniature-game/

Or if you can’t wait you could always do it with Lego: https://search2.lego.com/en-GB/harry%20potter
