Here I’m making a multi role tank for 15mm sci-fi. Help me find a name for it.

Self-Propelled Armoured Multirole Close Action Vehicle SPAMCAV
Self-Propelled Assault Machine (Multi-Role) SPAM(MR)
Battlefield Advanced Multi-Purpose Overland Tank BAMPOT
Special Action Unit, Self-propelled, Armoured, Ground Environment SAUSAGE
Specially Protected Assault Gun, Heavy, Endoatmospheric, Tactical, Terrain-Indifferent SPAGHETTI…the second of which offers the possibility of “Hammer’s Spammers”
Or there are Russo-German style syllabic contractions:
ObNazArtShturm (general purpose assault gun)
BronBoiMash (armoured combat vehicle)
StuPaK (cannon-armed assault tank)Or you could follow the American tradition of naming AFVs after generals, and pick a suitable military commander from your universe, perhaps the Rico or the Deladrier (Starship Troopers), the Rackham or the Wiggin (Ender’s Game), the Rogers or the Deering (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century), the Robur or the Nemo (Jules Verne works).
But in real life it would probably have a boring designation like the M-12.
All the best,
John.

Having said that, could simply choose a name that ‘sounds’ like the name of a former President or Leader – something that suggests it’s part of a coherent family of vehicles rather than a one off. If you want it to be more specific – say US (pick a nation) could be the Powell, the Eisenhower, the Regan – the Abrams, for example, was named after a Vienam War General.

But really, I’d go with something that stings, like Hornise (Hornet), or Wasp or whatever you have that is local that hurts.
Or, if you like weapons names and it is meant to stand-off and fight then maybe Pike, Pilum, Catapult, Halberd, Glaive, Ranseur…

Exculcator (“Squasher” in Latin)
Elefant

24/05/2017 at 13:30 #62795Ali Dogan SayinerParticipantThanks for everyone. I worked on it bit more. Mole! sounds good. I used “razor” for it on a FB page. But “Mole” sounds good.

Thank you Victoria, I also named the tank MOLE. Actually The Mobile Ordnance Light Engineering vehicle is the last vehicle produced before the last war of mankind.

25/05/2017 at 22:19 #63037John D SaltParticipantNice name. Not only does it look quite moley, with its snuffly nose blades, but it might also be taken as commemorating the name of Aussie tank pioneer Lancelot de Mole:

All the best,
John.
