I have followed your painting updates with great interest

Those games look and sound great
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Now if only I didn’t have a lifetime of stuff still to paint and use I would be sorely tempted!</p>

    Your painting really is excellent.

If I wasn’t so swamped with a painting backlog of years I would be really tempted to get these Oz ranges. The Harvest army you are doing in particular is weird and absolutely wonderful!

For playable purposes you would have to decrease the effectiveness of the native plant life a tad!

An interesting set of games could be had DnD style with simple missions to get from one side of  the board to the other to more complex rescue misssions.

I would have the vegetation on a random generated, non player type system as it generally needs to just be very very aggressive once activated.

Possible a sound activated system like in Zombicide attracting more plant life would be “fun”!

The baccus stuff is very nice but not 6mm, more like 8mm, somewhere I vaguely remember Peter posting about it.

Scotia grendel does all sorts of odds and ends like that.

I have backed 7 kickstarters over the last 4 years and have got very good value from them.

Only one had a few issues with delays and a few minor items never delivered but as I got serious value for money for what i did get I still count it as a success. However it did highlight the dangers of some of these KS over promising and not doing their sums correctly so the old adage “if it sounds too good to be true….” still applies!

I have not directly come across the type of KS that is effectively just a shop front for stuff already made but like Mike H it probably wouldn’t bother me that much as its a fine line imo.

It could be someone has invested a pile of their own money to get the stuff actually made and needs a bunch of initial sales to recoup that investment quickly, which a KS could do. I don’t see how that’s worse than a normal KS asking you for money up front….if any thing its a lot safer!

Such a retarded scheme…….. It basically forces non uk small sellers into 3 choices:

    1. stop selling to the UK as registering and maintaining a UK Vat account is stupid.
    2. Only sell using an online market place as the burden then passes to them.
    3. Sell to the UK but insist on minimum order value of £135 as then normal import vat applies that the customer has to deal with (like previously)

Not sure why the hell this had to change, are our Customs so incapable of collecting Vat on small parcels under £135?

Sure I understand there was probably a fair bit of under-declaration fraud going on with these small items but in gov money terms that would be absolutely insignificant otherwise they would simply employ more customs officers to check parcels.

Good luck to any non UK businesses out there, going to miss some of you!

The above is very interesting, however I wonder how the motor infantry and Air landing sections managed when they only started with 7 men total per section. Any one on leave, injured or whatever would mean the section immediately dropped below the recommended minimum.

That must have caused problems and the only real solution would have been to drop down to two sections I assume.

Not really sure how cost and time could ever be equal so my answer is always going to be both.

If money was unlimited I would buy every thing I need, ready finished, simply because there are much more talented people than me making and selling pretty much anything.

If time was unlimited I would certainly make more myself as the satisfaction of doing so is warming to the old cockles.

With my relatively amateur painting skills I have over the years tried black, white and gray undercoats/primers. Not sure if they really impacted the final colours enough to notice but they certainly made a difference to the actual painting.

I found black positively horrible to paint over, hard to see details and hard for many colours to cover. Using a white dry brush highlight didn’t really help me. With white I found too much generally showed through, and it made a heavy wash necessary to get in the recesses..

Then I saw a video on using gray for its neutral balance and have not looked back since. I have used a gray basecoat for some years now, sometimes its an actual primer, sometimes its just what ever gray paint I have. It hasn’t seemed to make much different either way as the important thing to me is that I start with a neutral consistent base colour.

    Cheers

I think some kind of op fire is needed, but ideally not over complicated.

Units shouldn’t be able to waltz around in view and close range of unsuppressed enemy without risk.

Also depends on how you manage ambush type situations how much it may be required. Ie if I have my atg sitting at a corner all ready and your tank comes round on your move, I still expect to get first shot!

Despite the overblown title a decent compilation:

The best military science fiction of the 20th century – edited by Harry Turtledove, published 2001, ISBN 0-345-43989-9

    A random selection:

War in Heaven – Gavin Smith

various books by Neil Asher or Iain M Banks, they vary but many are heavily war centered

Man-Kzin wars series – Larry Niven and others

    Janissaries – Jerry Pournelle

pretty much any thing by David Drake

The High Crusade by Poul Anderson

    Crusade by David Weber/Steve White

Space Soldiers – short stories ISBN0-441-00824-0

    and seconded from above posts:

Old Mans War series by John Scalzi

Dorsai series by Gordon R Dickson

The Forever War and others by Joe Haldeman

Hopefully a few of the above are of interest.
