Thanks! I was trying to think of a rationale for why a force would try to fight a peer with ostensibly lower tech weapons – like in a world of grav tanks why use anything else? Well, in a world that also has money, maybe you’re a force that has a budget to work within, so you’d be willing to take “almost as mobile” as an alternative and work around the limitations. The Union doesn’t have the power to tax its citizens like the Coalition does (and boy do they ever tax them – people emigrate over it all the time in my game world – but it pays for a very efficient and powerful military machine). So the Union colonies have to rely on income from corporations and independent colonies contributing to common defense, or raising their own formations and sending them off for training by mercenary and other veteran forces.
