the idea of mechs as being military units of various uses classes and broad types

Yes indeed, trying to keep this sort of a simple game that we will probably port over to 28mm scale for huge convention games (we already have a big collection).

This has made me want to push ahead my Germy minis and my modular terrain and do something similar. I just got a whole pile of cheap aquarium plants and am pulling them apart for “scatter” plant life similar to what you have there. Really inspiring stuff!

Dooooo iiiiiiit!  I admittedly have spent waaaaay too much over the years on silk plants, especially on the purple stuff.  But, it makes me happy.

What I really would like is some purple shades of clump foliage.  I’m in the process of making my own but my exwife took the chopper so the going is slow (might give the wire brush attachment to the dremel method a try).  I’ve also been working on some “rough ground” scatter that is basically a bunch of polystyrene balls glues together and painted (taken from an old beanbag).  They sure don’t like to take paint very well and are kind of fragile, so it’s a process…

And now for hills… I did finally find my hotwire, but haven’t decided how to do hills.  Flat top?  Round top?   I don’t really want to do stepped, as their purpose is more to block LOS than to give an actual tactical advantage (I mean, when using LOS weapons being higher might make a mech a better target, plus mechs` don’t get tired charging uphill).  Perhaps I should talk more about this in the Inkwell world building thread.
