British early tanks, in general, had a CS tank that was armed with a 3″ howitzer.   It was usually also the command vehicle of the squadron/company.  I assume it could fire smoke and high explosive rounds.  Most tanks, even in the early stages of the war had some sort of smoke discharger or smoke mortar as well.   There usually were not many vehicles of this type in the entire regiment.
