DSG: east coast, probably Cold Harbor / Petersburg, but TBC.
Tony: yes, the “campaign through time” is a nice idea. My friend Prof Nick Murray has done such a thing professionally at the US Army Command & General Staff College. Students were tasked with a river defense, first using Napoleonic troops/weapons/tactics, then WWII, then modern (I believe). Illuminating for understanding how technology changes tactics.
Belgium is a good spot for your Grand Malheur games. I was just recently looking at Fleurus with its battles in 1622, 1690, 1794 and 1815 (Ligny).
