Its a stand alone game. It’s a good read, and has some lovely photos –  But as a game I didn’t rate it. It suffered from the besetting sin of all games from Mister Priestley and Stallard for the period – it starts with the assumption pike and shot are separate units. This, put simply, isn’t how they worked. on the rare occasion they were used separately, it was for a particular purpose.

Additonally, it was annoying for a regular WAB player, it had a hatful of rules and weapons all of which were the same but very slightly different from the same weapon and rule in WAB and Fantasy.. WE had to keep looking stuff up a lot – an awful lot.

Lastly like lot of ECW games, it was also rather predictable, especially in games that represent large battles. The Infantry slog toward each other. the artillery fire, and quite rightly do very little harm. meanwhile the cavalry on each wing beat each other up. Whichever sides cavalry wins, the infantry on the other side is screwed and may as well throw in the towel.

There are better ECW games out there.
