Hiya folks,
Over on LAF I’ve been discussing how to go about making large cyclopean ruins – my desert fantasy ideas have started to crystalise into the idea of an ancient ruined city in the desert:
Built by a race of 12 foot giants (which, luckily, is the height of a 28mm mini vs. a 15mm). The city is incredibly vast and complex, walled like ancient Baghdad. In some areas the structures are just the odd stone poking out the ruins, in some there are whole complexes of buildings and temples. The city/complex is so vast that exploring it is more akin to exploring an ancient forest or country – some caravans claim that to even cross the walled city takes months, though this isn’t helped by the fact that the camels and horses can’t climb the cyclopean staircases.
Near the ancient gates that dot the walls small townships have sprung up – outposts and villages eking a living supplying the caravans and adventurers that pass through, the walls serving some protection from the desert bandits. Some towns are set up in ares where the ancient city has almost entirely disappeared, building adobe structures as they would outside the towering city walls. Other towns and villages are built as though squatting within the buildings of the ancient folk – the villagers adept at building extra floors and mezzanines within the huge ancient structures – ladders and ropes a regular part of life.
It is said that deeper within the city terrible dangers lurk – bandit colonies, beasts and remnants of the city’s original inhabitants – degenerate creatures baring little resemblance to the creators of this once incredible city.
So, thinking about all that got my juices going – and whilst I’m contemplating how to do the cyclopean ruins (i.e. what 28mm scaled ruins to buy) I got stuck back in to some old desert ruins (in normal 15mm scale) I started ages ago.

Pretty pleased with them! They’re not the giant ruins I want, but they’re pretty fun and I’ll happily use them for Sci-Fi too. I did buy these today too, to act as the ‘orrid giants for my cyclopean city

Any thoughts on the best way to achieve the giant ruins? AB – how much would it cost for you to cast me 100s of a particularly large brick?!
