From what I understood from interviews with the writes and producers, it’s wasn’t just sentient life that dropped by 50%, but ALL life!  Animal, plant, insect, corals, algeas, virus and bacteria, even pets… Now that should provide an even more interesting setting, as bioms collapse or flourish, and all sorts of places become more or less accessible.  not to mention how governments, companies and even families fall into chaos due to the vacuum left by those whom have vanished.  Dude left a real mess, that’s for sure!
