Concur – fascinating report.
I’ve only played Sacile once, as a solo game using Volley and Bayonet, at the same command level – Brigades as the basic manoeuvre unit.
I used the orbat and scenario from ‘Austria Stands Alone – The 1809 Campaign’, the scenario book for ‘Volley and Bayonet’, but again easily transferable to other rule sets of similar command level.
I found the terrain rules in V&B (streams are marshy banked and severely hamper movement and assault) made French progress on this flank impossible. When the reserve (9th ArmyCorps) arrives from Pordenone/Maruzzi the French/Italian are toast.
I’ve had a copy of HF&G since c2012 but never played them – don’t know why – something about all the peripheral stuff about set up, points etc puts me off. Silly really – tempted to give ’em a go after reading this.
Thanks for posting.
