Did they? I thought only the aristocrats and their immediate retinues had mounts. In other words, similar to the northern Germanic tribes.
This came up because I was reading Hugh Elton’s book about the later Roman army, and he asserts that historians have overestimated the horseyness of the barbarian armies, and that mounted troops comprised perhaps 10%. He’s willing to assert something more like 40-50% to the Sarmatians, Alans, and others with steppe origins.
