Um I won’t find more than what’s on internet… Dictionaries say that ventre-de-biche is a greyish-reddish light brown (or the contrary…)
Looking at pictures of female deer (biche), many seem to have a quite large stripe of such colour on each side of their belly, this sight would have been very familiar to noblemen used to hunting. Wild chamois may have such a colour but often darker. The colour of goats of Alpine breed is often called “chamoisé” too.
