This is why I prefer to think of historical wargaming as an exercise in “history as fantasy”, the way it appears in old-fashioned adventure yarns that tend to file down the sharp edges a bit..
I’m with Rhoderic here. Wargaming is just a more interesting form of chess so any associated death & destruction does not figure.
Periods I don’t game are strictly down to taste: Fantasy & sci-fi have no interest, medieval seems boring & post-WW2 is dull & drab looking. Keep in mind these views stem from personal taste & my personal taste is such that I’ll wear bowling shoes & tartan socks to formal occasions.
