In fact I was thinking the other way.

Horse-drawn vehicles were an everyday sight in these days, any farm boy was able to put a harness on a draught animal. But cannon was the most fearsome destruction weapon on a battlefield, thus giving prestige to its crews; artillery officers had to be instructed in mathematics, angles, fortifications etc they had a knowledge of the modern technology of the time (in a country where birth privilege had recently be abolished); they would probably have been very unhappy to be considered as coachmen. And Bonaparte was himself an artillery officer.
