I’m disappointed to see a lack of shading, washes, and highlighting though. It’s like they weren’t trying! 😀
I love seeing these sorts of reconstructions. The past was so much more colourful than we give it credit for. Even the dyes available could create a huge range of colours depending on mordant, water type, etc., and most were way more colourfast than people believe. I use this shot of wool dyed with natural dyes available in Scandinavia as a reference shot for my Vikings, and it makes them very bright and showy.
