It’s a different set of rules in other business environments, apparently. Once, early in my career, I was meeting with a bunch of high-level honchos to discuss a software system I was developing. I might have been a little nervous and I reverted to the royal we, for some reason. One of the VPs stopped me mid-sentence and asked me if I had a mouse in my pocket. Since that moment, I’ve been more conscious about using it.
