I don’t know much about what happened in Greece in this historical period; but if it can be of some interest to you:
Some years ago I looked at a monument in Guéméné-sur-Scorff (Brittany, France) a small town not far from my home, and I was surprised that it was about a local officer who died fighting “pirates” in Greece in 1827 in Stampali / Astypaléa.
I found that there had been an official commemoration there in 1927 and again in 2007 — although not many people outside this small town ever heard about these events. Apparently the locals, and the French Navy, still want to remember him:
