Hmm, I’d think new topic, as this topic seems to be more general and a new topic could be more specific.  Plus, new topic equals more stuff to have to keep track which is good for the insanity.

Certainly not the best paintjobs, but at about 7 seconds per skeleton to do the bone colour, I don’t care.

The contrast paints let you get a shaded model in next to no time.

The wood and metal I did the normal way, paint ink wash and drybrush.

Anyway, I have painted something in the first time in ages, so I’m happy.
Basing next, the banner will be plain black until I decide on a design.

Hey that’s not a bad result at all, and you can’t argue with the time it took either.  You could probably do another 300 in 30 min!

The new gaming room looks fantastic and there plenty of room on the shelves for more figures…..

    MOAR FIGURES!!

I finished a couple of units mostly of contrast painted bone, they look different from the previous models where I did paint, inkwash and drybrush, maybe not as nice? I am not sure, but here are the finished units (except for the banners, still not decided on those yet)

From the photos they look great, especially all grouped up like that.

Will they be augmented with archers and skelehorses?

A “Plague Cart” would be a nice touch though I suppose you’d have to scratch build it.

Now that is a cool idea. I have one of those models somewhere. £2.50. Those were the days!

Indeed, a plague cart is very much needed. I have been looking for models I can convert with minimal bother.

I am enjoying the undead, they are so quick to get painted, admittedly they are not painted to anything more than tabletop standard, but hey, that means playing with them which is the whole point right?

Next up are some skull chuckers. I added a green stuff crossbone as they seemed a bit wobbly up top.
    White primer.
Contrast paint, though in this case unlike with the skellies, a quick drybrush as these have flat areas where the contrast paint pools.

Love how sort of wonky they look.

Can you imagine trying to teach a skele how to operate a catapult?  I bet that would be a frustrating job.

    IKR!!

Next up. I figured my Empire army needed to upgrade its wizard.

That’s a “hot” paint job on the wizard. Nice one 👍

What every happened to undead archers?

When Tomb Kings came on the scene the ‘normal’ undead lost them and I missed the reasoning behind the retcon…

Love the new wizard – hope his hair stays away from the candles on the cowl…

    Thanks!

Not sure on undead, the Tomb Kings are Nagash related I think and a different undead from Empire undead which are local undead for local people?

I am sticking mostly to what was around in 3rd edition circa 2512 IC.

So none of this Tomb Kings, Ogre Kingdoms malarky etc   😛

I have a small unit of undead archers, though with such a dire BS I don’t expect much from them.

Managed to base some undead cavalry last night.
I forgot to chop off the bone tails* before priming though. Basing compound is plasticine with superglue spread over it to seal/harden and then sand texture gel.

(*Why do they have bones in their tails?)

Tail vs rump bones – the classic issue.

For me – horses (and wolves) just look daft without tails even when dead…

Finished the undead cavalry. Contrast again for the bones.
I did debate not painting the horse flesh and leaving it as bone. Doing he flesh made it twice as long to paint, but glad I did.

These are local undead for local people, there’s nothing for YOU here!

I have been looking for good 6mm scale options for the plague cart and skull chucker myself – it may be a mix and match task, as I also don’t want my undead going too far towards the Egyptian look.

Agreed, Heinrich Kemmler for us, no Nagash undead Tomb King modern carry on…

I am going to scratch build/kit bash a plague cart methinks.
    I do need one.

    Anyway.
    Some cheap and frightful Zombies.
Took much longer to paint than my skellies even at this lo-rez quality and I just read the rules and discovered they suck butt.

No more zombies in my undead army then…
    Shoulda painted more skellies….

Do not tell me – the zombies fall apart at the first contact?

    Sorry – I’ll get my coat 🙂

With luck they will distract a unit for a turn or two…

Yeah, they are very cheap units.
So they have that going for them.

So, it is not the most exciting army but my starter Undead army is done.
I will need some more wizards to act as controllers and I will need to make a plague cart.

Then after a few games have a tinker and refine.
Oh and I need to paint the banners at some point.

But for about £35.00 it was cheap and even only doing a few figures every now and then it took less than 4 weeks to paint.

All in all quite pleased to have a 3rd army to use.

That is a heck of a good deal for having a whole army done.  And doesn’t it feel so good to have a project completed like that?  😀

It does, played with it today too.

Needs 2 more skull chuckers and and a few hero models and good to go.

You should have that knocked out in no time at all.  Then the double satisfaction of having the project done again!

My WFB is 10/12mm rather than just 10mm.
Often this means many of the 10mm are too small to go with my collection.

    Though sometimes this proves useful.

I am collecting a Stirland army and the Elector Count, Alberich Haupt-Anderssen is but a teenager in IC 2512.
So a true 10mm figure will make him look less adult than the rest of my models, which is ideal.

This then meant that the whole world of 10mm opened up in terms of choice.

It took me ages to work out what model to use, some proxy Empire from the various 10mm companies.
    Convert an historical.

    Then it hit me… Warmaster.
So I had a look at the Warmaster heroes on horseback and was about to select one then I remembered.

    I have this….

    Had a change of heart.
This model has a warhammer (whoop) but all elector counts have Runefangs (swords) I did think about converting it, but then I could not use it as Karl Franz.

So… I will keep this for the Emperor himself.

I have found a Warmaster mounted hero to use, he did have 2 hand weapons, but I have sliced/filed that off and given him a shield in its place.

Cannot have the Emperor out shone by one of his Counts so maybe it’s for the best…

Yeah I did think of that, but then I thought maybe the Emperor can have a dragon.

Then I slapped myself and went with the current plan.

So, is this an aux to the skeles or Dark Elvises, or the start of a whole ‘nother interloping force?
