Ugly looking things (though their mothers still love them) – just what you need charging into the pesky humans / dark elves / skeletons etc etc πŸ™‚

The purple banner works well – unusual colour.

Thanks, the banner was a rush job TBH.
The chaos dudes not being my primary army get less attention.

I am still not sure on the colour, but it is not terrible so it stays!

It is far from exciting, but I dusted off and set up the old 3D printer to see if it still worked ok.

I printed some feathers that I use to convert historical models into more Empire feeling models.
    As seen here:

I think I may have to purchase an STL of a war wagon.

Kudos for the feathers – drove me potty in 28 so a wow for the 10mm ones. They really do lift ‘Swiss’ style figures into the Fantasy Realms.

As for the war wagon – it is Fathers Day so treats are allowed – I got myself some sourdough bread so you can have the STL file πŸ™‚ If any one asks just tell them I said it was OK…

    Hot Dang, let’s give it a go…

Will report back in about 3.5 hours

All printed, though I fear some of the detail/texture is so fine that it may be lost when painted.

Also the beams are so thick that getting any colour on it will be hard unless instead of painting the beams in black I paint them in 1 of the 2 colours.

And the horses legs are too long, but not much I can do about that…

The War Wagon was such a lovely model – I loved that one.

I think the War Wagon was great, I also liked the Steam Tank.
I am not sure which I preferred, I think it depends on the model of the steam tank, they went a bit OTT later on.
But then didn’t everything in warhammer jump the shark at some point…

So, as well as the 10mm I am slowly gathering some 25mm oldhammer.

It has to be said that the process of basing a slottabased model is so much nicer than a 10mm.

Slot it into the base and pretty much job done.

The 10mm however, you need to glue it to the base as centrally as possible, then build up the height so the base it is on is flush with the integral base.

    Then add the texture.

The texture stuff I use I really like but it shrinks a lot when it dries, that means if you use this to build up the base you need 2 or 3 layers, and it takes a while to dry.

So, my new cheaty technique is to use plasticine to build up the base and apply superglue with a cocktail stick over the plasticine. This hardens it enough to be able to apply the texture gel.

What used to take 2 or 3 sessions now takes just 1.

I love the smell of plasticine (in the morning) – happy memories…

I’ve been using AK modelling putty recently – its water based and does not smell / crack or shrink as it’s designed for modelling but sticks well to plastic and metal.

Less chance for my fingers and models becoming one!

    Is it air dry?

Not as big as I wanted, but it does fit on the size base I need it to, and it is an actual Keeper of Secrets rather than a conversion/knock off.

Turns out it is big enough.
I could have sworn the original 25mm model was huge compared to regular troops.

Turns out it is not even twice as tall and the KoS’s head is only 1/3 of a human higher..

So yeah, actually it is very much big enough!

    Is it air dry?

It is indeed – no smell during cure as far as my hay fevered nose can tell!

It is softer than most fillers so can take a bit of working at first – think Squadron tube putty style rather than the normal modelling / plasticine materials.

That keeper is still imposing to 10mm troops.Β  Maybe find a 25mm to use if you want it to be colossal?

    That worked well.

I honestly cannot see an issue with the legs – the morning star on the other hand always looked impractical πŸ™‚

Thanks, yeah the weapons are bonkers.
My issue with the legs is they are too long.

The model, the legs are 2.00 the size of its body:

    It irks me…Β  Β πŸ˜€

Darn – maybe never be able to unsee that now πŸ™ πŸ™‚

Not an easy job to shrink the legs or grow the body I guess, so is it a ‘hide behind a bush’ or ‘live with it till something better comes along’ figure?

Hopefully any opponent will be too worried about the charging wagon to notice.

Ha, it is mostly only an issue if you look side on from ground level.
But if you know, you know.

    The paint job looks great.

For the horses I think you can just say that they are a special breed, perhaps a type of Clydesdale for pulling super heavy wagons.

Cheers all, a change of pace now.

Started work on a ruined windmill. Paint the lime mortar first, ready to drybrush over it in grey stone.

Started with a lime mortar base coat, drybrushed the grey stone, block coloured everything then gave it all my customary brown inkwash.

Then picked out wood grain, & tiles, & so on…

Next to add a broken sail/mast/pole/axle/arm.

Then to make a terrain base thing for it..

Cheers, I will be adding them to my 10mm website with some fluff soon.

I may make a base for my 2 Talabheim pike units and combine them into 1 bigger unit.
I like big bases and I cannot lie.

Nice result – the feathers go well and laying them down will hopefully stop breakages…

As for the pig – lunch, weapon (as in flaming pig) or just a pet? Cannot wait to read the back story on this πŸ™‚

So….Β  After doing that big unit of 35 compared to my normal units of 20, I have decided to make all my units 35 strong.

1: I think it looks better.
2: It will be easier to move units about as there will be fewer of them.
3: It actually increases their HTH effectiveness.
4: (And this is the main reason). It has allowed me to combine some of my Talabheim units into each other, and this reduces the amount of non Stirland units of the table without losing whole units.
I have merged my 2 units of 20 Talabheim pike into one unit, thus halving the amount of Talabhiem pike in the army.
This will soon result in there being a very clear majority of Stirland troops.

I have just printed another unit of 35 Helblitzen.

Pics in a day or two.

    Human ‘horde’ army!

Should look really good on the table though.

Any plans for more ‘filler’ bases – I think they really add to the look of a block.
