Well, I sometimes can go a couple of weeks without doing a real game, but by keeping track of what I am doing and by a determined effort to cut some of my internet time down, it transpires that this month I have had 11 games on the table – feels like something of a record for me, but is also very nice that I am on a roll.

5 of the games have been a new boardgame (around 3 hours each game), and I do like to get several games  from the same system on the table in close succession, just so that the investment in rules reading helps me maximise my grasp of the rules. By game three, you really understand what the game wants and how it will reward play and you hardly ever have the rule book open, usually just the quick reference sheet is enough.

Next month (June) is Waterloo month, I would hope to get some Napoleonics gaming done – but I doubt I can be so pro-active as I have been this month. I’m going to lay down now and have a rest!

That is a really great effort! My own gaming goes very much in fits-and-starts, but I seem to be doing okay at the moment.  Matching 11 will be a big ask, mind.

11 in a month! Wow, good for you. My games in May: 0. Hoping to get in a solo game of Two Hour Wargames FNG sometime this week (solo play, not Vietnam, though: Rhodesian Light Infantry vs. ZANLA guerillas), and a game of the Hobbit Edition of monopoly with my wife, so might do at least 2 in June. Hold thumbs for me.

Those are brave men knocking at our door. Let's go kill them!

    Norm Smith:

The Jekyll side of me says well done and congratulations! The Hyde side grinds it’s teeth and wrings it’s hands, all green with envy. Bit both sides are in agreement that 11games in one month is bloodthirsty impressive.

Cheers and good gaming in June!

Well done Norm, I don’t think I have managed 11 games in a month since I was 20!  Yuo are right about distractions though, I could fit in a lot more game sif I did put my mind to it.  I do remember a few years ago managing about 7 games (fast games though) in one week (instead of 1 or 2 a month) simply by setting the goal of completing them in a week and ignoring distractions.

I was to some degree driven by necessity. I had do a bunch of Tigers at Minsk games to get the Yartzevo campaign module wrapped up as that was starting to drag on too long, plus the 5 boardgames were done because I am writing a blog article and something cropped up and so I needed replays to see if it was regular or a singular occurrence. On top of that, I am about to go into a spiral of intense game testing / development for my upcoming game on Stamford Bridge (1066) so I need clear decks for that.

So in most regards those 11 games were driven by agenda with subsequent write-ups, rather than being just private quality time moments.

I am pretty sure though that just collapsing in front of a screen for a few hours in the evening, has for many people, killed off their availability to get a mid-week game done or get that army painted.
