…quietly relaxing out here in Ukraine, with a bit of green stuff to hand (that I managed to smuggle out.. past my wife, not airport security!)… so as I was working on a few moderns and has a bit left over, my son said I had to make ‘future soldiers’…

So far they are in a pretty generic suit with notable knee, elbow and shoulder pads, a full dace helmet with visor and communication antenna, integral backpack ventilatir-type thing and (my 6 year old reliable informs me) 3 energy weapons, 1 missile/rocker launcher, 1 portable rail gun and 1 pkasma/freeze gun! (clearly playing too much Tanki)

Stay safe (though even Ferguson,Missouri, can be full of unwanted “excitement” too.)  I am sure there are places of peace and sanity in the Ukraine too.

You know what we need more of?

Blue collar worker dudes for scifi. Dudes with slightly futuristic looking tools, repair gadgets, scanners and whatnot. Ditto for scientists in stereotypical lab coats and various detection equipment.

And by “we” I mean “me” 🙂

    What He said!

Most of my games circle around small groups of irregular combatants, with a focus on pistol and knife work. So yet another army is pretty, just another army.

Also if you look a lot visual depictions of SF type troops they are often armed with oversized Pistol or PDW or Smg sorts of weapons. Yet they are generally under represented in Miniature…

Not entirely. GW models are utterly drowning in superfluous sidearms.

But that also depends on counting GW as SF. Which I don’t.

Also the discussion is about 15mm figures and the mass of them is what I am commenting on.

More “side arm” types would be nice in general. Security guards and whatnot.

I wonder if part of the problem though isn’t that weapons tend to be slightly exaggerated in size, especially on smaller figures.

I’m guessing the mass of them are going for hard sci fi, which doesn’t tend to feature pistols or PDWs as much.

This could be it as well with the amount of scale creep that has been sneaking in.
