Does anyone know where I might get some insect and arachnid models that would be suitable for use as giant creatures alongside 15mm figures? Basically what I am looking for are models that aren’t much more than 1.5cm long. I’ve looked in online toy stores at ‘bags of bugs’ and the like but the are all way too big for what I have in mind.13/06/2018 at 16:53 #9320113/06/2018 at 17:35 #93205
Thanks for the suggestion Mike. I checked out the two websites and I couldn’t find anything on Irregular but there are some critters in the Alternative Armies ‘Star Vikings’ range that sort of fit the bill. They are a bit ‘alien’ looking for my taste but I might get some if I can’t find anything more suitable.13/06/2018 at 17:41 #9320613/06/2018 at 17:59 #93207
But I will pass on the worms. I was really hoping to find some insects rather than alien bugs (for some reason things that look like science fiction worms give me the heebie-jeebies. I guess maybe that’s the idea?).13/06/2018 at 18:04 #93208
Khurasan do some giant Radi-ants
They also do Parasachnids – sci-fi bug types.
Or Vespulids -armed giant wasps!

For some reason the picture links in my previous post aren’t showing (at least not for me) – sorry.

I will check them out. I’m in the UK though and postage from the US tends to make things too expensive to be worthwhile. You need to put in a big order to justify the postage and if you do that you get hit with exorbitant import taxes at this end. It’s basically a lose/lose situation.13/06/2018 at 18:23 #9321413/06/2018 at 19:24 #93216
I have some of the ral partha spiders, from mouth to backside they are just over 2cm, RP do a load of other insects, dung beetles, fleas, etc, mainly found in their goblin range:13/06/2018 at 22:29 #93223
I’ll check Ral Partha out too and see what I can find. (I think there’s definitely a gap in the market here though Mike if you are looking for ideas for the next Crom Funder).14/06/2018 at 02:20 #93227EtrangerParticipant

I’m a bit surprised that you couldn’t find much in Alternative Armies. https://www.alternative-armies.com/collections/sengoku-15mm-japanese-fantasy?page=3 has spiders etc.14/06/2018 at 06:49 #93233
The problem with the Alternative Armies spiders is that they aren’t really spiders but some sort of hybrid creature. They come as a spider body and you have to add a separate head, of a bull or snake or whatever.
What I was really hoping for was some small, reasonably anatomically correct, spiders, ants and dragonflies. I’m sure when I was a kid you used to be able to buy stuff like that from the Natural History Museum or Science Museum or even joke shops but all the toys I have been able to find are way too big and the fantasy wargaming stuff tends to look very ‘cartoony’ and be pretty badly sculpted.14/06/2018 at 10:26 #93254EtrangerParticipant
I’ve got hordes of the Khurasan ants, not the giant, irradiated ones. They’re great. Shame about the shipping costs.14/06/2018 at 10:42 #93259
I might bite the bullet and order something from Khurasan. I’ve been wanting to order their 15mm Fantasy Adventurers pack for ages because they really are excellent figures.14/06/2018 at 15:07 #93271
I think I might have found what I am looking for on the Perfect Six website. They do some spiders and rats for their 6mm dungeon adventure that look the part. Unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment . . .14/06/2018 at 15:47 #9327714/06/2018 at 15:50 #93278

Brilliant. Thanks guys.14/06/2018 at 16:29 #93282
I have the rats and spiders – for use with my 6mm historical and fantasy stuff. They are nice but very tiny, approx 4- 5mm long in the body in each case..

Yes, that will work for me. A 5mm spider is still pretty huge next to a 15mm figure.14/06/2018 at 17:49 #93290
This pic might help you with scale, these are Richards (perfect6’s) rats n spiders alongside a 15mm GZG & 15mm Ral Partha mini, the rats n spiders are on a 5p and the 15mm minis on 1p’s:14/06/2018 at 18:00 #93293
Cheers for the picture. They are ideal for what I’m looking for. I might need to get one of those Ral Partha figures as well. I like your painting and basing. It looks great.14/06/2018 at 18:16 #93295
Thanks General, I had a good look around before I started my 15mm fantasy project and came to the conclusion that the Ral Partha demonworld range is about the best stuff available here in the UK. Copplestones stuff is nice too but he only has a very limited range, I also have some 15mm Battle Honor and some of Magister Militums 15mm fantasy neither of which are quite as good as the other two in my opinion, but offer some variety(although the battle honor range is much larger than the other 3 mentioned)14/06/2018 at 18:40 #93296
I’m doing a Hyboria-style affair and for the rank and file I mainly use Minifigs historicals – everything from ancients to Aztecs and Wild West Indians. I like the Copplestone figures but as you say the range is very limited. I also love the Crom’s Anvil range that Mike has created (which I am hoping will continue to grow). I think Magister Militum’s skeletons are very good but I am not so keen on the rest of the range. The thing I find hardest to come by are suitable monsters. I really don’t like the look of most of the ones I have seen. They always seem to look weirdly exaggerated. Even the Copplestone wolves look like they were based on a Disney cartoon rather than on actual wolves.14/06/2018 at 18:42 #9329814/06/2018 at 20:29 #93309
I’m a fan of the Ral Partha skellies myself: https://ablogofwar.blogspot.com/2017/10/15mm-fantasyi-undead.html14/06/2018 at 22:58 #93314
They do look good. I particularly like the cultists. Nice brushwork again.15/06/2018 at 06:12 #93321Gaz045Participant
I got these bugs, they fit your 15mm size requirement and cheap too

Although you didn’t mention them, I thought I’d point you at Alternative Armies’ scorpion scourge:
I got them recently and they look quite effective with 15mms

Thanks cmnash, I don’t know how I missed those. I thought I’d looked through all the Alternative Armies ranges but I didn’t notice those scorpions. They are just the ticket.19/06/2018 at 10:14 #93572
