The completion of the 2/8e Ligne means the reaching of a principle landmark having now completed 33% of the required French line battalions in Victor’s I Corps at Talavera.

The regiment was involved in the Peninsular War right from the start as French troops began to infiltrate into Spain in January 1808 under the guise of the Treaty of Fontainebleau.
