    My first U.S. unit for Mexican-American War (5th Regular Infantry);

    Thanks for the comments fellas.

    As to the uniforms, the U.S. infantry had three uniforms available at the time, a dark blue dress coat with light blue trousers, light blue fatigue uniform and a white version of the fatigue uniform.  Illustrations show various shades of light blue worn, probably due to artists’ impressions; so I took the view that as long as it’s light blue, good enough.  The drummer and the standard bearers are totally wrong as the maker has grafted U.S. heads onto Mexican uniform bodies.  Rather than scrap them I splashed paint about in a vague resemblance of dress coats and trimmings, not too bad a disguise as long as they aren’t looked at too closely!

    Very nice!

    I remember an article in Airfix magazine back in the late 70s or early 80s that was about converting a 54mm Airfix figure into an American Infantryman of the Mexican-American war. The memorable thing for me was the light blue uniform! Imagine if they still had it twenty years later….

    Very nice.  What is the scale?

    I have quite a few MAW figures in 28mm Old Glory.  This is a really good period for gaming small battles as well as skirmishes.  Despite the US winning all the major engagements, many of them were close-run affairs.  This is a largely (and mistakenly) overlooked period for gaming, I think.  I like it enough that I even wrote a set of rules for the period.

    Enjoy!  And thanks for sharing.

    My own intentions are to have each side represented in roughly brigade strength with the Mexicans already done.  Once they are all available I can get down to the task of experimenting with rules.  Thanks for taking an interest.
