Finally developed a paint scheme I like for these guys, after much trial and error. With the yellowish broken ground pattern, these guys spoke to me of a Venus colony. No idea what they’re doing yet combat-wise, but I’m happy with the paint scheme!

Beautiful! Great contrast with the base, too!

We get slapped around, but we have a good time!

I forget, the broken ground texture, how was that applied?

GW’s specialty paints or something very much like them, I reckon. Martian Iron Crust or whatever.

Love that mecha! It’s a Kaiju, isn’t it?

They’re Onslaught Tengu Rig Sergeants. Small at 6mm scale, but just right at 3mm! Trimmed the base down though – Onslaught mechs are all a bit base-y, if you know what I mean.

And yes that’s a GW crackle paint on the base – Martian Ironearth, on a plywood base stained with dark red printers’ ink so the wood doesn’t show through the cracks in the basing.

Nice painting. I like the general theming and the implied background story, too.

Thanks for saying so! I already have a force from Mars (Federal Republic of Hellas Planitia) and several from Earth (ENSPUN, Russian Confederation, China, Japan) so it somehow seemed right for the Venusians to be in on the act too.

Very clever on the basing.  Love that camo too, very different!

Any way we could coax you into doing 3mm scale Darkest Star forces? 😉

Are these guys nicknamed ‘the Bananas’ …. .?  😄

Seriously, though – great scheme, with a super contrast on your Martian base – always jealous of those…..

    Would love to see more……

Venus is renowned for its many banana plantations.

I was thinking more along the lines of a hypothetical Ben & Jerry’s flavour that’s a swirl of banana and chocolate ice creams with bits of Liquorice Allsorts mixed in 😛

Venus is a hot planet. Ice cream is a necessity.

Seriously though, I based the colors on the false-color photos the Soviet took of the surface on the Venera probes. For whatever reason they’re always tinted yellow, if they’re not black and white.

That would be bonkers!  I’m still trying to put all of the 6mm into 15mm, which is the opposite direction!

But who knows?  People are also trying to talk me into going 28mm.  Honestly, there’s too much variable in the way the public desire blows.

All that said, if you really want them super badly we can talk about it.

    Dear Mat,

How do those newest Microworld Sci-Fi minis stack up to O8? As long as I am ordering some of their 3mm fantasy stuff, I am thinking of getting some vehicles, too. Their earlier stuff disappointed me, being too flat for use with O8 infantry. Here things look a bit better. What is your take on things?

The Team Scimitar tanks are the ones with the most “body” to them, they ride higher and are probably a better match for O8 infantry if you felt like Team Falchion was too flat.  They also have an aesthetic compatible with the New Terra line so you have integrated heavy, superheavy, ultraheavy and BOLO tanks all the way down the line.  The biggest (well, “most important”) thing is that all the infantry is going to skew slightly large against any 3mm scale line except for Vanguard, which is a true 50% scale-down of an existing 6mm line.  So if you’re taking your cues from Vanguard your perceptions will be a little off.

Nope. Taking my cues from O8 on these.

The ones I am interested in are Team Katana. What is your take on those?

Team Katana is good, has good body to it. And it’s a high tech grab force so it’s got that nice Traveller look to it. If I can dig out some infantry stands I’ll do a comparison shot to show you how they stack up. Scimitar is in my estimation the best and most “real” until Kukri comes out.

Thanks! I am thinking of using them as a high tech alien force. Any shots you can put up, would be great!

Hey! No fair I am still pestering him to get the 6mm NOT Traveller ships out. No distractions!
