Another fun game with these great rules from Osprey. Full AAR and pictures of a dawn attack by the Ottoman Turks on the blog http://grahamsgaming.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/an-eastern-pikemans-lament.html

That all worked for me Graham, great game.  It also reminded me that I have a load of painted OG Turks lying around and doing nothing too.

Just bought Pikeman’s Lament today and I have a painted 15mm Ottoman DBM/R army. What kind of Ottoman list did you use?

You could make Janissaries veteran shot but with no close order capability. Or even Folorn Hope.  Arnauts commanded shot.  Iarlars clansmen.  Foot Azabs clubmen.  Spahis of the Porte aggressive gallopers, feudal Spahis inferior ones. Tatars and mounted Azabs trotters and inferior trotters.

I have a bunch of under employed Turks too let us know how you get on and the catergories you decide on.

Thanks, I’ll have to do some rebasing but that all sounds good.

Sorry I’ve only just seem your question.

For this game I used these:
    Janissaries – Forlorn Hope
Sipahis of the Porte – Gallopers
    Feudal Sipahis – Trotters
    Tartars – Veteran Dragoons
    Infantry – Shot
    Balkan foot – Commanded Shot

I like the idea of the Tatars as Dragoons, maybe the mounted Azabs too, but inferior ones.

    I think I’ll be re-basing too.

Would the Ottomans have any Pike? and if so how would you rate them?

No, they didn’t, but Essex make them.  Ordinary Pike I suppose or even Raw.

This one pops up every now and again – Wikipedia quotes some being sent to fight the Portuguese in Ethiopia but with no reference for source.

Everyone else (bar Essex) says they didn’t use them.

Not a Turkish speaker and I haven’t hunted other sources very hard, so I couldn’t swear to it, but I’ve not found any mention of them.

As OB says, if you use them, make them as bad as possible!
