What games have you done on the anniversary of the actual battle?

Battle of Jarama as a three game campaign on/around the 80th anniversary in Feb 2017.

Oh, I thought you wanted to know how often people had played a wargame on their wedding anniversary, maybe with a follow-up question about how many were still married …

I have done some anniversary games. Normandy games in Normandy in June are a favourite, eg:

Operation Bluecoat (OK, the actual battle was early August, but it was the 75th anniversary of the battle for Normandy)

    And a couple of others:

950th anniversary game of Hastings 1066

and Waterloo in its 200th anniversary year.

When scheduled to run something at a Con or Gameday, I usually (if not always…) look to the books* to see what was happening on that date – I do this for in-house stuff as well.  Doing so brings a bit of history to ‘historical gaming’, and -perhaps most importantly for a lazy person such as myself- does most/all of the scenario work/planning/table layout!

    * or online, of course: an example for my WW1 aircombat interest = https://www.theaerodrome.com/today/today.cgi#google_vignette
