We played another game of SWL this afternoon and added in heavy weapons and more command cards. The game only seems to get better with these additions, it’s definitely high on my replay list. The only thing is I think we need more figures, but I will use my 15mm Star Wars stuff next time to see how it plays with a larger group of figures. Have a read of the AAR on my blog here:
Great report! I am surprised by the re-playability as a couple of people I know have said that it needs more variety of troops to avoid the “same battle different day” feel. I do not know if they have all of teh characters and whatnot, but they are big xwing players so I believe they will give it more of a chance.

DSG: Thanks, yeah, I am currently suffering from that issue, but in this game we added the heavy weapons, doubled the size of the table and had an extra commander, so it was different from our first try out. As I mentioned in the post, I think if I were to use the 15mm not-Star Wars minis I have to increase the size of a game it may change things about a lot. Arguably you can put all the stats of the troops onto a single roster doing away with the need for the cards cluttering up the table, as the only units that differ are the commanders (I’m sure that will change when they release more trooper types though).
Mike: The figures have some very nice poses indeed, Vader in particular, but yeah, Luke is dicing with death (or an ear lopping).
