Aztec dwarf, front and back. Converted from a Reaper dwarf barbarian sculpted by Sandra Garrity and some plastic bits and bobs left over from the plastic Aztecs set from Wargames Atlantic.

Urm – OK – yes love it.

Super idea and a great change from the ‘classical’ viking or bright orange look.

Is it a one-off or will you do more?

Interesting conversion, I love the idea and the things such as the shield, weapon and colours. Only thing that looks a bit off are the clothes and the belt, but I’m hardly an expert on the culture.

It’s a very nice change and take on the classic fantasy races. Reminds me of those Roman Orcs I once saw.

Thank you. This will probably be a one-off. If I get a crazy hair, I might make an opponent group of 12 for gaming, but in the Maztica setting that I am using, the dwarfs from the House Of Tezca desert are a long way from the jungles of Payt where the adventurers are.

Thank you. I figured since the Aztecs had pants attached to their suits, and Apaches had belts and high boots, this wouldn’t be too far beyond reason. I made the buckle and hairpiece gold, because, well dwarfs and gold go so well together…

The figure looks great. Adding a green stuff “maxtli” loincloth where the belt buckle is would make the figure pop.

But I have to be “that guy” and mention that indigenous people couldn’t really grow substantial beards. In fact the Aztecs had proscriptions against any facial hair. Young male children had hot compresses applied to their faces to stifle hair follicle development. Apparently, elderly Aztecs of high social standings could wear beards, which were small and wispy.

“That guy” mode off. (And I do realize this is in the Fantasy section)

Fantasy dwarfs have beards in my book, even when they live in the House Of Tezca and travel southeast to Far Payit 😉 I am well aware of the historical facts of Aztec and other Native American facial hair 🙂
