This year’s Battleground show will be taking place on Saturday 26th November in our usual venue of the Queen’s Campus Sports Hall in Stockton-on-Tees, TS17 6BH. The show is open 10am until 3pm and entry is completely FREE!
The trader forms have all gone out and we’ll start confirming those soon. There will be some new faces coming along this year so keep an eye out for those and we’ll be updating the website as we receive the bookings: https://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/traders
The games booking forms will be going out this coming weekend and we’re expecting the usual fantastic selection of display and participation games to be available. As with the traders, we’ll be updating the game details as we receive the bookings: https://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/games
The Tabletop Sale will be running as usual and we expect it to be fully booked once again. We’ll open the bookings for this in September so keep an eye out for an announcement for that. You can book a table at £1.50 per half hour and sell off any unwanted goodies you might have. You can deal with the customers directly, offload some kit and then go buy something new from the traders!
All of the show info can be found on either the Battleground website here: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/ or our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/BattlegroundShow?ref=hl If you’ve got any questions about the event, just let us know.
So, don’t forget to tell your friends about the FREE ENTRY and we’ll see you there!

24/11/2022 at 08:32 #180430willzParticipantA bit too far from Devon, would love to attend. Good luck it has all the makings of a wonderful show. If anyone from the forum goes some photos would be greatly appreciated.
24/11/2022 at 10:30 #180443deephorseParticipantBar some unforeseen event I will be there. However, in the 40+ years that I’ve been attending shows I have yet to take a photo at one! I’m a shopper really.
So, I’ll try to remember to take my ipad, and then try to remember to take some photos once I’m there. Don’t expect a show report though ☹️

We’ll definitely have some pics from the show, I’ll probably get them uploaded and sorted on Sunday evening.

Come and say hello if you see me about (Pendraken shirt / Battleground hoodie), always good to put a face to an online name…!

25/11/2022 at 23:33 #180507willzParticipantCheers mate.
27/11/2022 at 12:18 #180551deephorseParticipantWell that was a great show, the best Battleground I’ve been to. But that’s purely from the shopping point of view though. There were some great deals to be had at the tabletop sales, and Grubby took all my monthly pension.
On the journey home I realised that I hadn’t taken any photos of the various games. Sorry wilz. It’s just not in my wargame show ‘muscle memory’, as previously explained. I had a quick look at most of them, but only one took my attention. So I stood there for several minutes but no-one took any notice of me, and it seemed rude to interrupt their focus on their game. It appeared to be an opportunity for them to play something bigger, and for longer, than they could at home or at their club. Disappointing really.
Anyway wilz, hopefully Leon will put up some photos for us as promised. And I had better start saving up for next year.

27/11/2022 at 12:27 #180552willzParticipantNo worries Deephorse I do the same if gamers do not interact with me at wargame shows I don’t take photos either. If you put on public displays at shows I am a firm believer that it is your duty to interact and explain what you are displaying or gaming. Totally agree I find it rude that some gamers use shows as their own personal gaming club.
27/11/2022 at 15:00 #180554Steve JohnsonParticipantGlad to hear you had a good show on the shopping front. I’m not sure if it’s a trend, but pre-Covid I had noticed some games seeming to be an excuse for free entry to a show and to put on a big club game, with precious little interaction with the punters: the same seems to be the case this year too. Fortunately many games and gamers are happy to explain, discuss engage etc.
27/11/2022 at 17:34 #180557Mike HeaddenParticipantPersonally, I am more than happy to break in to games that seem to be absorbing all of the participants attention. If I want to know who makes the figures/ how they made that terrain/ what the rules are/ etc then I’ll target one player and ask my question(s). The only problem I tend to encounter is escaping the torrent of enthusiasm unleashed!

As I’ve already posted, I’ve been going to these shows for 40+ years now, and my memory tells me that twas ever thus. A minority, yes, but there’s always one. And Leon now knows what I look like!
Oh, and I met a very nice chap on the Spanish Civil War display table. I got a potted history and was allowed to hold the Mauser C96 (Broomhandle). Appearance wise, this has long been my favourite handgun. As a child I had a toy one that came in a Man From UNCLE suitcase set, despite the show never featuring one, to the best of my knowledge. Alas it disappeared decades ago, along with all my pristine Corgi and Dinky toys. I blame my younger brother!

28/11/2022 at 15:56 #180577Guy FarrishParticipantI had the Man from UNCLE broom handle Mauser set too, with skeleton stock and telescopic site (optimistic I always thought!). Mine’s disappeared as well. I wish I had a sibling to blame!

Good to see you yesterday, I must admit that sometimes the faces disappear quite shortly after the event! So if I ask who you are again next year just refer me back to this thread…!

One of the best toys a boy could have. Apart from a Johnny Seven that is. Though sadly I never had one ☹️

29/11/2022 at 12:19 #180635Norm SParticipantJohnny Seven ….. oh my! I used make my mg nest on the square bit at the top of the staircase and recruit my sister to run up the stairs to assault my position. Johnny Seven at the ready, white bullets, green grenade off the launcher, a green bomb in the muzzle and a lipstick read rocket in the launcher on the side. Happy days! and she still talks to me 🙂

As it was we were only discussing Johnny Seven on the “Fife and Drum” forum last week. I never got one.
This the toy that started the debate.
This is a good watch

01/12/2022 at 10:53 #180694Guy FarrishParticipantI suspect modern ways of accessing music have put a crimp in the Agent Zero radio/gun’s plausibility. Difficult to fold down a decent calibre weapon into an mp3 player (do they still exist?) or a Smartphone.
I did ‘join’ U.N.C.L.E. though – kept my yellow ID card for years; Section 5 Communications (cunningly altered to Section 1 Operations). I’d most certainly alter it back to comms if I still had it. All that running around? Far too energetic.
