    Hello everyone,

From 1866 it was intented that Chevaulegers should be armed once again with carbines.

A carbine version of excellent M1869 Werder rifle was tested before the Franco-Prussian War, but none were avaivable for troops issue, and consequently 500 prussian M1857 carbines were issued to the Bavarian Chevaulegers.

In the course of the war the 4 th Chevaulegers finally received 80 of the M1869 Bavarian carbines.

My question is how were these carbines worn when the chevaulegers did not have them by hand ?

No explanatory photos or illustrations ?
