I’m thinking about buying some 15mm Swedes for the GNW they’ll need to match, more or less, the Dixon figures that I already have for the Russians.  I’ve not had much luck finding pics of the Dixon or Roundway ones.  Any suggestions or views very much appreciated, pics of course would be even better.

Don’t know if they match Dixon, but Legio Heroica makes fantastic 15mm.

Personally I like Minifigs.  They should be a reasonable match for Roundway but I haven’t seen them alongside Dixons.  The range is pretty limited, just musketeers,  a single cavalryman and a personality figure of Charles XII but I think they are very nicely proportioned.   The horses are a bit of an acquired taste.  I like them – I think they look like they pranced right out of an 18th century oil painting – but many aren’t so keen.

The pictures on the Minifigs website are generally woeful but fortunately there are a few reasonable ones of the GNW Swedes.

Why they didn’t trim the sprue off the officer’s sword before taking the picture is anyone’s guess.  I haven’t included the picture of the Swedish Dragoon because it is so out of focus as to be useless.  But don’t let that put you off. Minifigs design is remarkably consistent across their ranges and if you like one figure you will probably like them all.

    Thanks lads.

Legio are lovely figures Truls but way too big to match Dixon which are pretty small.

I do like Minifigs General Slade and thanks for the pics.  They fit well enough with Dixon and Roundway so I’ll have a ponder in that direction too. Quite agree about the Minifigs website they don’t make the best of what they have.

As an aside the best Bashkirs/Kalmuks that I could locate are from  Old Glory Napoleonic range.  A little big, but fantastic figures and as they’ll spend most of their time evading and thus avoiding the scrutiny of line ups  I’m going to have some.

Dixon do their own range of specific Swedish troops. I also use Roundway, though slightly chunked perfectly fine in their own units

Very nice! Those two Swedish battalions are worth at least 8 Russian battalions.

Just as well Truls, I seem to have more Russians at the moment.

I’m about to start painting my Swedish cavalry.

Think  I’ve now covered most of the armies for the Great Northern War in 15mm. I’ve used a mix of Dixon, Warrior, Blue Moon (cavalry only as the infantry are to large), Roundway, Legio Herioca and Essex.

That’s a very nice collection Neil.  I know what you mean with Blue Moon cavalry they do fit well with Dixon surprisingly enough.  I think the cavalry that scale up best with Blue Moon foot are Black Hat Marlburian Cavalry-big lads.
