ParticipantI’m reaching a critical point with my method of carrying around my troops and I’m wondering if anyone can give me any personal recommendations.
Most of my troops are 28mm and are based on multi-figure unit stands, rather than single bases. With standards and/or upright spears, these are sometimes 2-3 inches tall. At the moment, I’m carrying them to and from games in open-topped plastic trays, which is an unsatisfactory and potentially damaging system. I’d like to be able to carry them around without worrying that they they’ll be crushed or shaken.
I’ve looked at some of the commercially available cases, but aren’t these more for single figures?

ParticipantI strongly recommend KR Multicase. They have a broad variety of inserts and I should think you’d find one of suitable size and robustness for a gamer in your position. They are pricey, but feel much less so when you realize that you’re protecting all the hours of work you put into your figures. I have several of the aluminum ones and they look and work great.

ParticipantI use covered metal sheet cake pans. I like them because I can sort my figures out by genre/game and even though they are covered to keep out dust, you can easily look in to see which figs are in which. I use them for 1-4 figure stands.
Of course, you have to attach a magnetic sheet to the bottom your stands, but that helps them slide across a felt tabletop. I have several pans with a raised lid giving me more than 3″ of clearance.
Here is a pan with “Jungle Crawl” figures in it:
Then I made several carry racks that hold five pans each. I never need more than two when transporting figs. A bungie keeps them from sliding out:

ParticipantWow Gorb, those carry racks are cool. Thanks.
Those are brave men knocking at our door. Let's go kill them!

ParticipantThanks, Paul. With a square and a circular saw you can knock out several of them in a couple hours.

ParticipantMagnetic sheets and metal bases are IMO the best solution.

ParticipantAltius I use “Really useful boxes” or “Wham” boxes for storage and transport.
Normally use 10ltr “Really useful box” for 28mm infantry and the “Wham” boxes for cavalry you could put metal sheet on the bottom if you want to use magnetic bases.

ParticipantFor 3mm, I use tupperwear sandwich holders. I put a layer of units in the bottom, slip in a piece of paper and a slice of PVA foam, put in another layer of units and another paper/PVA foam layer, then close it. Pressure keeps everything in place; the foam protects against damage.
We get slapped around, but we have a good time!
