Had a great game of Hail Caesar at my local FLGS today. Blog post here: https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=7845445937219070849#allposts/postNum=0

Excellent AAR and pics, Sparker!  Bibracte is one of my very favorite historical battles, and it was nice to see it played out in such a grand manner.

But IMHO it was quite ‘fortunate’ for Caesar to have some extra bowmen and light artillery for use in your tabletop battle.

I’ll look forward to reading about your Alesia megagame near the end of the year.

    Cheers,
    Scott

    Thanks Scott very kind!

Yes I think Philip tweaked the orbats slightly so that the Roman players start to get familiar with the troops they will be using at Alesia….

Ahhh, that seems sensible, then. Are you planning any additional ‘warm-up’ engagements prior to your big Alesia battle?

    Cheers,

Thanks for the splendid AAR.   Great to have some humour in our hobby.    I was baracking for the Gauls.

Planning a re-fight of the Battle of Gaza between the Diadochi – Demetrius and Ptolemy/Seleucus this coming Sunday.    At the moment am making the Ptolemaic anti–elephant devices.     Maybe I am being too literal – the number of sharp pins being used is quite high!   Report will follow in due course – Hail Caesar encounter.  Our game of choice now that we have stopped playing WAB.

Oh yes definitely – we have a long way to go! Keying in all the fortifications will be key. I expect regular training games to pick up the pace once we have finished our epic Waterloo game in June…

Absolutely. HC is a great set of rules – some ‘Huh???‘ wrinkles, like any other set, but like Black Powder they allow the staging of ridiculously large games in a day…

Very nice thanks – oddly, the thing I have taken away is the way the boards are grassed all along their edges, so that they always mate properly. I am about to do some boards and would have ended up with hard edges to grassed areas that did not match the next board because i would have even done the edges mixed grass and non-grass …… so thanks for saving me some heartache!

Thanks Norm! Yes my mate Terry spends a lot of time making and renovating the boards and hills – he is nothing if not a perfectionist! Also most days before a big game he gets in before everyone else and sets up the table and scenery – what a star! In this game though I wish his command rolls had been a little higher!
