ParticipantLast week while working on my tiles shown elsewhere on this board, I inadvertently slipped in on a side project, like I often do.
A few hours of work later, this stompy fellow stood on my workbench:
Envisioned as a Nuclear-powered giant robot, he is armed with several sets of missiles as well as a rotary cannon.
The next day I managed to cobble together another one:
Armed with dual plasma cannons, this behemoth has less options in his arsenal, but is still a potent threat.
Here is the two side by side, I managed to keep them about the same size I was lucky to find, to it won’t look too weird when they go up against each other.
I have plans to make a few more GSR’s, and then have them fight it out using some as of yet undetermined rules. If you have any good ideas, let me know ๐

ParticipantFor some reason when I saw these they made me think of the MORAV
Which is not a bad thing, not at all sir!

MemberNice! So full of charm.
What did you make them out of? I only ask as I don’t recognise the materials.

ParticipantFirst of all, thanks to all of you for the words of encouragement!
Thank you Stroezie, I don’t know how I’ve never seen the MORAV before, I appreciate you sharing that bit of internet gold ๐
You know that making this stuff is probably no harder than what you already make yourself Ali, your son should be proud of his fathers work ๐
Nothing to it Rhoderic ๐ they are made from three things: Super sculpey (the brown bits) and milliput and 2-part epoxy putty (the white and black bits).
Looking at your cuties was great inspiration, and I hope we’ll see more sci-fi cuties from you Victoria!
We must do what we can to bring more titanic robots to the public, don’t we William? ๐

ParticipantUpdate:
The giant robots now have a not so shiny new paintjob:
Standing in for scale this time, it’s easier to appreciate the size of these guys.
While not 100% done, I have a few more on the way, and a super-heavy tank or two in the works..

ParticipantThanks, I’ll take that as a compliment ๐
I have three more on the workbench, as well as a more regularly sized mech. I’m not sure if I’ll do any more than those right now, but you never know when inspiration will strike..

ParticipantSo this weekend I tried out Mekatac for use with my giant robots.
Even though there was only two of them with no support for this first one, I think it worked out all right.
Big Boy (in yellow) defends this area and it’s generator against the interloper Firebug (in Khaki)
Firebug takes the first hit as the large missile hits him!
Attacking the generator, and scoring a hit.
Getting into knife-fighting range, Firebug manages to melt the rotary cannon and blow it’s magazines.
Both looking worse for wear, and with Big Boy having no ammo left for any of it’s functional launchers, Firebug managed to destroy the generator at last. With both robots savaged, I called it a draw even though the generator was destroyed, given that Firebug had a round or two left in him before the electrical fire that started a few rounds earlier would bring him down.
For the entire write-up, and some more pics, check out the blog: http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/01/testing-out-mekatac.html
Thanks for looking!

ParticipantGood Stuff! ย Haven’t tried Mekatak yet, but did get a game in of Mecha Carnage (think Gomi Designs carries it now). ย (and previous post was indeed a compliment!)

ParticipantCheers Victoria! I’m quite fond of him too, probably my favorite piece I made so far ๐
@darkest-star-games: Then I shall take it in the spirit it was intended. I hadn’t heard of Mecha Carnage, so I had a look at it. I think it could be good fun.Ooh, Now you have to share some pics ๐ What mechs do you use?

ParticipantFor the MC game we used a friends batch of gasaphon figures. ย There was a crazy Gundam with scythes, some sort of gorilla-lion giant robot style dude, and a couple of mook mechs from (I think) Gundam Wing. ย Was good fun! ย I might use it again but for more military style battles.

31/01/2017 at 19:26 #56998Alexander Wasberg
ParticipantThat’s great, gashapons are a good source of ready to play mechs ๐ I have got more than a few boxes of gundam ones, and some modified Mekatac might see them take to the field.
The various mook mechs from gundam are great for military style robots, since they tend to be a bit less over the top than titular hero and villain mechs.
Don’t forget to take some pics next time, I love to look at other peoples games and minis!

ParticipantLove the Gasaphon. ย Just bought 60 something UC0079 units for a Convention game I’m working up. ย Woop woop!
But back to your mechs… when will the production line hum once again?

Participant^^ I expect pics when that game happens.
The production line will hopefully start up in ernest tomorrow again, as tonight was spent sculpting various pieces for a pair of other mechs.
With a little luck there will be a pic or two tomorrow or on thursday!

ParticipantThe next pair of mechs have been finished:
The pair of them, and a Zephyr infantry unit for scale.
Thanks to Stroezie who showed me this cool mech, this is my interpretation of the MORAV robot. I decided to keep some of the design elements, but I changed up some things, including but not limited to the shape and size of various elements and made a bigger shoulder cannon. Unnamed as of yet, he wears the colors of Zephyr, just in case he is needed in Horizon wars at some point.
Inspired by the Battletech Marauder and some pics I found floating around the internet, this one I’m particularly happy with.
I had a bit of an misadventure with this one, as I managed to drop it. Thanks to my darling wife however, it was soon fixed up again, albeit carring some new battle damage.More pics as usual, not the blog:http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/02/another-set-of-giant-stompy-robots-and.html

ParticipantAnother day, and a what would it be without a big menacing robot? A day wasted, of course! ๐
I haven’t quite finished this one yet, but I thought I’d share the WiP pictures I have:
I’ve just managed to base-coat and paint some gun barrels so far, but this multi-armed giant is a dangerous close-in fighter. With 4 clawed arms as well as 4 rotary cannons, his reach is limited, but packs a real punch up close, ripping armor plating and firing point-blank into it’s foes.
I hope to finish him by the weekend, so there might be a throwdown with the other giants. I have a few new mech designs on the sculpting table, but rather more regular in size compared to these behemoths.
Some more info about what’s coming is on the blog: http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/02/terrain-board-project-tile-no-5-all.html

Not any more so than the others Mike. I suppose it would depend on wether it’s your house he is stepping on, or somebody elses..

ParticipantOoh, really like this one , be cool to see how he measures up against the other big boys.
Those claw/rotary cannon combo’s look wicked.
What ,if any, are your plans for the head?
08/02/2017 at 18:36 #57584Alexander Wasberg
ParticipantThanks Stroezie ๐
I don’t really have a plan other than making the lens/cockpit window some menacing color. These big guys I try to keep as simple and “clean” as I can stylisticly, if that makes any sense?

ParticipantThe reason the last of the original 5 Giant Stompy Robots have been delayed can be explained by these guys that I have been working on:
A 3/6mm experiment, space battles in the spirit of Gundam/VOTOMS with a twist of Ma.K.
Not technically a mech at all, rather the beginnings of a bolo/Ogre-like supertank. Still pretty massive though ๐
Some more traditional mechs as well, 2 humanoid designs to the left, and some battletech/combat walker style mechs to the right. While they are decidedly smaller than the other mechs I’ve shared here, they are still pretty stompy, allthough the experimental ones in the first picture is a bit less so and the second one will have threads rather than legs..

ParticipantThe fifth one is here and spoiling for a fight!
He came out quite menacing, and the claws and rotary cannons does little to dispell that notion. He’s a bit different from the others, but I like that he stands out from the rest!

ParticipantAfter some time I managed to finish up this report, a 2 on 2 giant mecha fight:
Getting ready. Firebug and Warbot (on top) is teaming up against Dachรด and Big Boy (on the bottom)
Warbot trades blows with Big Boy, both takes quite a beating.
Getting caught rebooting after a critical hit, Big Boy is in trouble..
Luckily Dachรด manages to launch an attack into the back of Firebug, taking some heat off his ally.
Warbot is knocked down by a heavy hit, but Firebug pushes on to finish off the damaged Big Boy!
Firebug takes a few more hits as he draws the attention of both enemies, but manages to finish off Big Boy with a plasma cannon at point blank range.
Having finished off one enemy, Warbot and Firebug turn to finish off Dachรด. After two blasts from Firebug at close range, Dachรด decided to surrender rather than be destroyed.

ParticipantA pair of mechs all done during the week:
The mechs, with a Zephyr unit for scale as ususal. I painted them up for the SADU (on the left) and Burke’s Iron Men (on the right).
A bigger mech inspired by the Battletech Marauder. Composite armor panels add extra protection to the main body, while the two dual barrel energy cannons slag enemy armor.
Staying in the walker-style of mech, the second mech is also a big one, but more of a hodge-podge of design ideas from all sorts of sources (Battletech being in there, of course!). With a missile launcher and a long-barreled energy cannon, it’s a versatile fighter.Full post on the blog, as usual: http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/03/update-terrain-boards-wip-space-mechs.html
