After a twenty year hiatus, I am getting back into Napoleonic wargaming as I bought a copy of Blucher, the new Sam Mustafa rules. I certainly like what I see, but I have a question about basing figures that someone in here may be able to answer. In the rules it says that the cards that are used for the game are 3″ wide, which is the recommended size for a Base Width. However, I recently got the set of cards for the 100 Days campaign and found that the actual card width is 3.5″. This may be a simple question for most, but which size should I use as my base width? 3″ or 3.5″? I know the base width is left up to the individual player, but I’d like the use the cards in with figures. What have others done?

We’re using 80x60mm bases, near enough to the size of the cards for us.

Mine are based on 3x2cm rectangles. You can use any size you like, actually.

We get slapped around, but we have a good time!

Thanks guys, yeah, the rules say any basing, as long as you use it as a basic measurement in the game. I just wondered if people were using the available cards as a base measurement?

The rules say to use a 3″ BW measurement if using the cards.

Units based from 3″ to 80mm will work fine with the cards – just stick to a 3″ ‘base width’ measurement and all will work out. The measurement doesn’t have to be exactly the same as the base width, just near to it.

OK, thanks for that Steve, I shall base them with that in mind.
