Sitting in the headquarters BTR, Oberstleutenant Wimmer was looking at his Oberstabsfeldwebel. With the Reserve Panzer Division, many of the senior sergeants were older men.
How old was Oberstabsfeldwebel Steiner? The older man looked at his commander and grinned. “Ja, Herr Oberstleutenant, today I will command my panzer one more time!”
Wimmer gave a second look at the Regimental Sergeant Major and noticed he had pinned on some other medals with his regulation dress. The Third Reich verboten wound medal 2nd class, the verboten Iron Cross First Class and some other awards had been added.
Oberstleutenant Wimmer saw the red ribbon of the IC2 in two other senior sergeant’s button hole. He smiled to himself. At least some of his tankers had experience, even if it was 40 years old.

The Danes of Vordingborg barely noticed as the guards on the petrol stations were changed. These men hardly looked different, but their uniforms were not as neat and they paid more attention to their weapons.

Almost beneath the eyes of a few Danish stay behind watchers, the 10th Panzer had replaced units at the front. The few old T34 tanks and erstaz were left out in positions as under the cover of night, T55M and BMPs, BTRs and PR76 moved out.

Fresh artillery positions were dug in and provided with overhead cover and replaced ammo dumps.  Anti-aircraft guns and missiles were also in improved positions. Roving patrols were also heard.  Only the elderly had any advice.      # 1  stay off the streets!               # 2. Sleep in your basement with a stockpile of food and fresh water.

Major Gruber was a very worried man, all the signs that the East Germans would attack at dawn were lit up red, the refugee’s scouts and intel pointed to an early morning with overwhelming force. and he had no tanks at all…

Grendal snickered as he watched the parachutes drifting down to the swampy marshes. It helps to have agents in the NATO forces.  A slight adjustment caused one of the old gooney birds pilots to misjudge his assigned drop zone and instead of an open pasture, the heavily laden paratroopers were headed for a bottomless swamp.

If any survived the plunge, they would be without their equipment.

Grendal reported a successful operation to his superior and moved to his next assignment.

Oberstleutenant Wimmer came back from his inspection of the grounded freighter. The men had been working feverishly to remove ammunition and equipment as well as any salvageable vehicles. He wondered how orders had gotten so screwed up as to send the “museum battalion” into battle.

The ship should be afloat and emptied soon. Then it could go back and bring the second wave after some major repairs. Another foggy morning to start the day.  He drove himself to his field headquarters.  It was time to move.

Alex Bates fought for control of the aircraft the flack has taken out his port engine and he was coming in too fast, the gas filed barrels lit the runway he steered to he cut the starboard engine and feathered the props, and tried to lower the landing gear but the flack must have cut his hydraulics as nothing happen, he got on the intercom and yelled, brace your selves we are belly landing…

When the Normandy Qween shuttered to a stop just feet from the end of the runway, Alex quickly unbuckled and made his way down the back of the plane telling the Marines and Royal Marines to grab their shit and get out of the plane before it caught fire!!! Later as he and the Marines lay on the grass coughing from the thick black smoke from the fire engulfed plane he thought close one. The Normandy Qween would never fly again so Alex asked the Local commander what he should do. Do the Officer said You are now drafted into the Royal Marines and grab 20 rounds of mortar bombs…you are a pack-mule…

When Oberstlieutenant Wimmer received the message from his scouts in the town ahead, he frowned.  Then he summoned his artillery chief.  What did they say about “the best laid plans”?

Senior lieutenant Starsky rode up to Oberstlieutenant Wimmer.  Dawn was still just a suggestion in the east.

“Sir, we have a great day ahead!  This town can be easily bypassed to the right flank.  There are several good roads. The bridges will easily support our heaviest vehicles.”

“Very good!” replied Oberstlieutenant Wimmer.  “Panzer vor!”

The Regiment plus additional equipments and attachments quickly bypasses the Danish town while the defenders slept.  As the trail elements withdrew, they left some presents for the defenders along each road leading south or east.

The roads ahead were clear as the rising sun greeted the columns of vehicles headed north to the relief of the beleaguered airborne forces.

Thank you, Shaun and Craig Farrow. Now that the weather is warm I’m working outside on my back porch getting the rafters for the roof up. I’ve only injured myself a little bit…
