I know it probably doesn’t get cheaper than the eM4 plastics:
But I wonder if there are other cheapies to be had out there? I mean, of course there’s eBay and deals to be had on various fora’s trading boards.
The Kings of War stuff looks nice, too and the price ain’t bad.

The Wargames Factory stuff doesn’t do much for me, but the price is decent.

How about Warrior Miniatures?

Metal figures that are about £1 per foot figure:
Black Tree Designs currently have a sale on, with 50% off foot and 25% off cavalry packs. That makes their foot figures £3 for four metal figures, which is hard to beat. I’ve just ordered a few of their fantasy Saracens to allow me to make a fantas version of my medieval arab / berber army. I’ve ordered some flying carpets and magician, so I’m now just looking for a couple of elephants (or similar large fantasy beasts) with howdahs. I may buy plastic toys and add the howdahs myself.
Holy smokes, it does get cheaper!

I bought 8 packs. I’ll have 96 figures for about $25 including postage. Some minor modifications and head swaps and they’ll be hobgoblins or some such. Or just paint their faces in a metallic color for them to be masks to hide whatever eldritch horror inhabits those clothes.

Those Persians would make good Easterling types for LOTR.
My Persians came in.
They stick together pretty easy. Four down, 92 to go.
