On a recent visit to Chester I took time to take a look at Chester Military Museum, home to the 22nd Cheshire Regiment among others.

The museum has some really interesting items that cover a long period dating back to the founding of the Cheshire Regiment in 1689.

Thanks for posting that – fascinating. It’s a long time since I went round.

I know we have to accept amalgamations in times of draw down but it seems a shame the Cheshires had to go after surviving for 318 years.

Being a company in the Mercian Regiment doesn’t seem quite the same somehow.

Thanks Guy, glad you enjoyed the read.

Yeah I know what you mean but I think the British army has its regimental traditions practically grafted into its basic DNA that I reckon years from now if a company of the ‘Cheshire’ Mercians find themselves in a sticky situation someone within the ranks will have the presence of mind to remind all concerned of the spirit shown at Meeane and another chapter will get added to the history book.

    Cheers
