In my last (or previous-to-last) order from Gamecraft Miniatures, I decided to try out one of the Greenstuff World Colorshift paints. I put a black basecoat on one of my Lovecraftian horrors and put a couple thin coats of the color shifting paint on top. I like the results—a nifty, metallic sheen with various shades that has different looks depending on the light and angle. I could see these being useful for xenomorphs and other alien horrors, or on cyberpunk vehicles. Similar results might occur by using washes on a metallic base.

I took pictures in 3 different kinds of light (indoor, shaded outdoor, full sun) and from some different angles.

Also produced by Vallejo.  In three flavours 🙂

Obvious contrarian and passive aggressive old prat, who is taken far too seriously by some and not seriously enough by others.

I had not noticed it existed, thanks for the info.

Some years ago one of my friends posted on his blog pictures of miniatures painted with “invisible paint”… but it was a 1st April, there was actually no figures on the pictures.

Thanks for posting in different light!  I had been pondering this sort of paint for vehicles windows (as well as “liquid chrome), I just might have to give it a go.

Some of the quality craft paints are offering colour shifting paints now. Often in the same versions. They work, more paint for less price but more than the usual price for craft paint. I’ve seen them in Folk Art, Deco, and Ceramcoat (I’m sure I misspelled that) brands.

I remember when car manufacturers discovered this sort of stuff a few years back. They got all excited about the possibilities, and Nissan and Alfa Romeo actually sold cars painted in it.

The problem was that the shades produced with the available technology were really manky so the whole idea was quietly dropped…

Looks like Vallejo has a whole bunch of different colors too, nice!

Black with a pale metallic blue stain, and light drybrush with silver.  Gloss varnish.
