ParticipantI already had the Cruel Seas starter set but my friend Jeff Lawrance sold me his German and British fleets last weekend at TwistedLords gaming con in OKC. Now I have not played the game yet. But went ahead and bought the US and Japanese fleets today. I just like the ships and messing about with boats.

MemberMole and Rat were rowing up the river in Rat’s boat. They were discussing nautical things and life in general when Rat is heard to utter, “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats”.
I agree with you, KB, and Rat.

ParticipantWell now we are expecting to read some musing on said boats, as well as perhaps an AAR or 2? Surely you must now indulge since you have both sides now!
(I say this, yet have only once taken my 1/600 PT Dockyard boats out for a run, despite having plenty of vessels for a pretty large smash-up…)

ParticipantNow that coincidence is truly hilarious! Like Darby, I too have a collection from PT Dockyard in 1/600, for WWII in the Pacific. I just finished them this weekend, will post pics later this week.

ParticipantCleaning up flash and joined the Facebook Cruel Seas group The Dock Office which has game errata and alt turning circles (something I think it needs).
Doing some online reading about early Pacific actions in the Philippines, as that’s where I’ll start my game.

ParticipantTurns out I have the wrong PT’s for the Philippines, but close enough is good enough.

ParticipantNice! I’m surprised that those landing craft look like they’re packed with troops, I don’t think I’ve seen that before. And those PTs sure do look ready for action!

ParticipantWell I’ll be damned, John has posted pictures on a forum! I’m right proud of ya, Old Man!
And those boats look absolutely amazing, much better than mine! You’re making me regret doing this in 1/600 vice 1/300, those are really beautiful models. And I’m with you, don’t sweat the difference in PT models, just go shoot up some Japanese barges!

ParticipantI took the pics, my lady, Joyce posted them to Facebook and Mike moved them over here so It was a group effort. I like the Warlords plastic, resin, and metal ships. The Cruel Ses rules need some mods to work the way I want them too. I will be shooting up Japanese barges soon… but the Japanese aircraft may be shooting up my PT boats!!!

ParticipantWell, get some US planes to keep the Japanese planes off of ya! 😉

ParticipantThe game starts Dec 8th, 1941 in the Philippines the US Army Air Corp gets bombed and lost 1/2 of their planes. The rest get shot down. So the US has almost no aircover.

ParticipantWe played two games of Cruel Seas at our local shop today. A US v Japan near Guadalcanal and a UK v GER off the Dutch coast.

ParticipantReally like those docks. You can get lots of oil barrels, boxes, etc from Perfect Six miniatures. I have loads and they are great!

ParticipantWe really like the game and have 7+ players with all the fleets represented except the Russians (so far).
We play once a month on the second Sunday and interest keeps growing. By September we will likely have 3 tables going simultaneously.

ParticipantWe use the David Manley mods mostly. None of us were content with the shell splash rules.

ParticipantI received 5 3-D printed tramp steamers I need to add details and paint them so I have targets for both sides.
27/08/2019 at 22:57 #120773kyoteblue
ParticipantFirst game today, US PT boats V Japanese PT boats landing Craft and Troop ships my friend Jon Bumgardener came over and played the Japanese while I had 2 US PT boats. It was a landing /ambush scenario. The Japanese had 2 Troop ships ( Small 3-D printed freighters) 4 landing craft and 2 PT boats. The Troops ships and PT boats where at anchor and the landing craft heading to shore when the US PT boats ambushed them. I was able to launch 4 torpedoes at the Troop ships on the second turn but 2 of the 4 hits were duds I damaged but didn’t sink them. I then ran both of my PT boats into the Troop ships damaging my boats and scraping some paint off the Troop ships. ( You have to plan turns way in advance) so the Japanese PT boats got into the action and sank both my PT boats. Fun but I should have reread the rules and played on a larger table.

ParticipantLive and learn. Always a tough go with brand new first time playing rules. Sounds like you had fun though, I bet those rams made both of you sweat a little!

ParticipantI needed a bigger table so I’ve gotten another seascape mat added. I’ll try it again and make up an emergency turn rule.
