    All,

It’s 0930 on 1 Feb 1990, and, following 2nd Marine Company’s successful amphibious assault, A Company, 6th Infantry Battalion came ashore at the Bay of Pigs landing site, moved to 2nd Marine Company’s left (northern) flank, and began pushing inland. Things were going well until A Company was ambushed by elements of the Castro regime’s 81st Infantry Company, 4th Infantry Battalion.

    So far we’ve had:
    1) B Squadron SOF destroyed a radar site in support of amphibious landings at Playa Colorada (5). B Sqdn then egressed and linked up with CLA rotary wing assets for their follow-on mission in Havana (6).
    2) C Squadron SOF destroyed a the Cuban military’s communications center.
    3) 1st Para Battalion dropped in and seized a bridge to screen the landings at Playa Colorada (5).
    4) 2nd Para battalion dropped in and eliminated a Castro-regime garrison to screen the landings at the Bay of Pigs (just west of (4).
    5) 1st Marine Company, 3rd Infantry Battalion, made an amphibious assault at Playa Colorada.
    6) A Squadron SOF attacked a Castro-regime SAM site near Havana, which failed to clear the way for B Squadron’s helo assault into Havana.
    7) 2nd Marine Company, 6th Infantry Battalion, landed at the Bay of Pigs then turned east and ran into a strong enemy force, which it handily defeated.
    8) B Company of the UWG pursued and destroyed an enemy garrison in the Escambray Mountains.
    9) B Squadron SOF conducted an aerial insertion into Havana to seize a radio station and broadcast news of the invasion.
    10) 10th Popular Force Battalion seized and destroyed the Pedroso bridge to protect the Bay of Pigs landing site from the Matanzas garrison.
    11) 1st Airborne Infantry Battalion successfully fought off a regime counterattack near the bridge at Sandino, protecting the western (Playa Colorada) landing site from the Pinar del Rio garrison.
    12) 6th Infantry Battalion fought through an enemy ambush while pushing inland from the Bay of Pigs landing site.

The opposing forces, with Castro regime troops on the left and CLA on the right. The CLA are US from Pendraken’s Vietnam range, while the Castro troops are Argentinians from Pendraken’s Falklands range.

The CLA forces have a Command Stand, five rifle stands, an HMG team, an 81mm mortar team, and a single leader figure representing Colonel Colvasquez, their battalion commander, who was already decorated for valor for the fight at the beaches of the Bay of Pigs. The Castro force has a Command Stand, four rifle teams, an HMG team, an MMG team, and an 82mm mortar.

Overview, north is up. A Company entered at bottom left (southeast), while the Castro forces are spread across the top (north) edge of the map, to include in a small village and a team atop the cliffs at top right (northeast).

Things are not going well for the CLA force, and the whole fight hinged on this action on the CLA right flank: the lone rifle team there is forced back by enemy fire, hunkering, when the enemy charges; Colonel Colvasquez immediately grasps the gravity of the situation and throws in with the beleaguered CLA rifle team…

One more left to post from last weekend, looking to get some more fights in this weekend.

Jack as if there was any doubt these last few weeks have proven you to be the undisputed BatRep King…the Rod’s of this world will forever persist in their attempts to pull you off your throne. Ignore his impudent attacks.

I have to say I’ve been crazy busy recently and have had no time to check out anything relating to wargaming including these excellent reports although I’ve just seen Rod’s painting a rather pink picture of your last report. Jealousy Jack, pure and simple. I face it everyday. It gets ugly. Rod kindof ugly.

Another game of Descent this evening with the local riff raff. I’m practicing my youth vocabulary right now: Lots of use of :dope, on fleek, hash tag sorry not sorry….my word I’ll need prayers

Your terrain looks really impressive BTW…love those palm trees…these last few reports have really reminded me of my last trip to Cuba:

“The great Gaels of Ireland are the men that God made mad,
For all their wars are merry, and all their songs are sad.”

Rod – Quit your crying and read faster 😉

Panda – He lives!  You know, I’ve been waiting on a certain type of e-mail from you.  In any case, that cracked me up, ‘Rod kind of ugly.’ 😉

Kyote – We have an accord, the car is indeed pink!

    Panda,

I’m just screwing with ya man, no sweat.  I know it’s summertime, and despite my prodigious output of batreps recently, even I am beginning to feel the familial pressures.  So far I’ve been lucky in that the wife has been taking the kids to children’s birthday parties on the weekends, so I’ve been able to dodge those and steel upstairs for some gaming, then I’ve been travelling a bit for business, so I lock myself in my hotel room and type like the wind!

Long story short, I’m having a great time but I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this up…

Regarding C&C Napoleonics, I had a few questions for you, but I don’t anymore…  Because I went and bought the base set and the Austrian expansion.  I’ve got some work to do, but I’ll be playing the games on the provided boards, with some terrain enhancements, but with miniatures.  On down the road I’ll look to go the Kallistra Hex-on route (I’ve loved those things ever since seeing what Norm Smith does with them), so I’m waiting on you to get it all figured out then I’ll pillage you for info on how much I need 😉

Right now I’ve got some painting to do, which is problematic because I also just spent a bunch of money on Napoleonic troops from Pendraken (they just released their Brits for Waterloo), and so all of a sudden I find myself with parallel Napoleonic projects: C&C Naps with some plastic 10mm figures (from the Risk boardgame):

And then the Pendraken Naps for some ‘proper’ wargaming.  I’m not sure at all what I’m doing, how I got into this position where I’m essentially doing the same thing twice, it just sort of happened.  Dammit!!!!  We’ll see how this turns out.

Hope all is well with the family, talk to ya soon.

    V/R,
    Jack

Yeah, I’m about to have two different types of forces, each with multiple armies, in 10mm, one where the battalion/squadron is the basic unit, and one where the brigade is the basic unit.

Madness is right! You know Jack, I think we should be both locked up…that sounds way too similar to the craziness I get myself into 😉

On down the road I’ll look to go the Kallistra Hex-on route (I’ve loved those things ever since seeing what Norm Smith does with them), so I’m waiting on you to get it all figured out then I’ll pillage you for info on how much I need ;)

Funny you should say that but I was hoping the same thing 😉

    Yeah, it just sorta happened.

And I’m patient, you’ll be getting Hex-on before me. 😉

I wish, that stuff is expensive!

Despite it being Father’s Day, I’m not getting much done wargaming-wise this weekend…

    Just Jack:

A blazing fire fight without too much maneuver. Basically both sides just blasted away at each other and Castro’s boys lost. Shooting and rallying. I am impressed that the CLA survived the ambush and declare Colonel Colvasques an enemy of the people of Cuba. We put a bounty of 100 bushels of bananas on his head. Viva Cubana socialista!

    Commander Rodrigo.

    Panda:

Why you micro-encephalous, Celtic-cretin, I’m gonna go a ‘Rod kinda ugly’ on your sorry, pot’o’gold-ringed arse and kick you from Alberta’s wide plains and fair hills right back to that dung-heap you called home in emerald Erin! If I had some bamboo on hand, I’d grass the Panda’s as…. I was saying, watch your back duckie! You may fancy yourself a bear, but I’ve beaten one up before, “mano a urso”, so you better learn some manners Mr. Bear before I kick the Pooh outta you. Some peoples’ children; sheesh! Now, get off my land! (Said in a West-Country accent).

    Cheers and good gaming.

    Rod Robertson.
