While I’m left pretty cold by GoT and Lotr (with the exception of Jackson’s Orcs and that Gothmog’s design incorporates John Merrick and the Cat in the Hat, and his Munch Scream Witch-King), I’m thinking of doing some fantasy stuff, like Eddison’s fantastic Worm Ouroboros and Moorcock’s beast-headed legions of Granbretan.

Other than than the big ticket fantasy steamrollers, does anyone do more obscure (and downright crazy) S&S stuff?

Some Sword & Planet stuff is interesting, at least from a design standpoint. Ken Bulmer, a near-genius hack, wrote at least 30 volumes set in the green and scarlet sunlight of Antares with some great zoanthropic races: yellow tusked Chuliks, vulturine Rapas, and onward and outward on the manimal cladogram.
