I used to play a lot of Saurian Safari back in the day but haven’t dabbled with dinosaur hunting for years. However, today I found a very nice Spinosaurus plastic toy in the local charity shop for a couple of quid, which got me thinking…
I really like Saurian Safari but it is a bit clunky, so I wondered if I could use the D6 system from What a Tanker as an alternative? I think it’s a great mechanic for multiplayer games and would work well for Dino hunting too.
Something like this: D6: 1 = move / 2 = spot / 3 = aim / 4 = shoot / 5 = reload / 6 = free choice.
So, pretty much lifting the existing mechanic for the hunters but with the dinosaurs moved by the umpire using reaction tables. I can see it being quite tense when the dice don’t go in your favour and you are facing something that’s hungry.
Is this daft or am I onto something?
I so want a Dino to eat a King Tiger !!!
It would mean adapting and/or simplifying the systems from Saurian Safari using D6 instead of %.
I’d probably just work out a whole new thing as it would be easier.
I have a 15 mm King Tiger and my Granddaughter has Dinos… This needs to happen!!!
Jim, are you talking about hunting them on foot, or in a tank? Either would be great.
As to whether it’s daft or not, if it floats your goats then it’s all good!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
On foot. Victorian explorer style…
I so want a Dino to eat a King Tiger !!!
Wouldn’t the dinosaur have to peel it first?
The crunchy bits are the best part!!
