Some dudes game I game I downloaded from Wargames Vault a few days ago.

I had to whip up some monsters quick so I did up the ants from the lead collection.  I realize in spite of all the 15mm figures I have, very few are painted fantasy figures.  These will be good for larger scales too or sci-fi.  There will be a few in the forthcoming game, not the whole swarm.

Yep, looks like the Fire Ant invasion is progressing nicely… (hate those dang things!  They’ve ruined my yard!)

I spent part of this past weekend working on a desert game mat.  Take a look at the burning sand that just drifted into the game room.

The bases for the palms will be getting a repaint.

Standard 4×6.  I’m going to make another one 3×5 for my smaller setup.  This should be a super usual mat for all things arid.  North Africa for dub dub 2, Iraq for moderns, chariot racing (in the future), gladiatorial combat, Gaslands, and all things fantasy desert.

That matt looks fantastic!  Did you make it?

That is an impressive mat, I heartily approve.

Now get some brawny warriors bashing bugs! 🙂

I made the mat.  It’s a piece of canvas covered with a mixture of paint and liquid latex with several dry brushed highlights.

It really looks great!  With what did you apply the liquid latex?

1 1/2″ brush and a small roller.  The latex cures really fast so as it dries you can go back over the mat with the roller pulling up the paint/latex mixture into little ridges.  Its the opposite of what you might do painting the house, trying to keep that smooth.

I got the palms repainted last night and the kids and I messed around with some layouts.  Here is a sneak peak of things to come.

Things may come to a halt here soon for 10 days or so.  I have plans all next week and will not be working on or playing with miniatures.

Really does look the biz, great setup!

Did you drybrush the mat, or did the paint naturally settle into the pockets?  It really looks professionally done!

It’s drybrushed.  Flat brown base coat, dry brush green brown, dry brush desert yellow, dry brush buff, dry brush silver grey.  You have to be faithful to the drybrush.  Seriously! You have to make it a drybrush.  Did I mention it has to be a drybrush?  It’s not easy, I had some goofs myself.  Thankfully I could fix them.

I hate large sections of dry brushing.  Everything is perfect except for one small spot.  Gotta go slow!  Your board looks flawless.

Very impressive work on the mosque as well as the board, it really looks flawless like Oldben1 said!

I’m eager to see what comes next 🙂

The buildings are all Gale Force 9 Battlefield in a box from Battlefront.  The only credit I can take is collecting them.  There is more yet to be shown here.  When I return in a week…
