I have a separate thread in the terrain section for some 28mm Sci-fi scenery made mostly from household junk and other 3D bits etc. I thought I’d start a thread here for the figures I have been painting for that project.

Junk build scifi skirmish scenery for Stargrave, Planet 28 and others

The figures will be used for Planet 28, Stargrave, Mutants and Death Ray guns and Rogue stars.

These are a couple of aliens I painted recently. They are Zykhee scouts from VOR but I intend to use them as NPCs in games. I think they are cool figures and the crouching guy is a great pose.

They’ll also double as Falleen from Star Wars for that project and I painted them in vaguely Falleen colours.

Never seen those figures before – VOR never showed its head in this shops I looked in but I’m glad in a way as the lead pile would have grown if these are examples!!!

The flesh tone and eye colour work well – all in all a great couple of figures and I’m looking forward to your next posts.

Nor have I, they were a random purchase for our local ebay equivalent. Great figures and hopefully I can get more of them.

Looks like Iron Winds have the Maelstrom range now but not cheap $6+ each.

I know these folk have an extra joint but this just looks odd!

Here is another figure I finished earlier, its a Reaper minis Argamite Explorer. Its a cute little figure who will serve as part of my Stargrave crew (after I paint the rest)

Although I’ve wanted to focus on 1-2 sets of rules, I did pick up these and joined their Discord server.

There’s some nice ideas and the mechanics look great, and they are a toolkit for building your own scenarios and campaigns. At 16 pages they will be great for quick skirmish games.

I’ve been working on a few figures for some Mutants and Death Ray Guns (by Ganesha Games) warbands, and I’ll be adding an Android and robots for a multiplayer game I’m planning.

The Android is a simple conversion with a CP Models Alien federation figure with one of their Breather helmet heads and WA Eisenkern Stormtrooper arms.

    Robot
This is an old landraider conversion with extra bits and a robot torso/head from an unknown manufacturer and a Eisenkern Stormtrooper backpack on the front. I saw a similar conversion previously but I couldn’t find it. I like the old school vibe of this robot.

    Surveillance robot
I raided my bits box for this. The body is a Mantic Veer-myn, the arms from an Eldar Wraithlord, the camera is a Dungeons and Lasers scifi bit and there’s a few Tau bits mixed in. Its an awkward looking robot but I think it works well. I was planning to add some arms or weapons but nothing works well, so I’ll leave it as strange looking robot!

I think the camera droid works really well. ‘Look, don’t touch’.

Very cool camera droid! In a game like Stargrave, you could have it represent media presence and give your players notoriety points if they do something particularly cool and it gets filmed.

We get slapped around, but we have a good time!

Good to know as i have those rules, but I haven’t played them yet.

I’m working on a new faction for a 6 player game I’m hosting soon. These are Avian figures by CP models. Quite simple sculpts but with lots of character and who doesn’t like Chicken! These will be one of the factions called the Poultry Liberation front.

I also got the Avian Ambassador figures.

Here’s my painted Avians by CP Models, or Sci-fi chickens as I like to call them!

They are cool figures and pretty easy to paint. I wouldn’t have minded some different weapons but they make a great sci-fi warband.

Nicely done. I can just imagine them bursting into a fast food joint and shouting “Ok, who ordered the Space Nuggets?!?!”

Here’s the robots I previewed earlier in this thread, which are now finished.

I was experimenting on them a bit with the colour schemes, in particular the yellow/green one, where I sprayed it aluminum colour and used Tamiya clear paints over the top. It looks pretty good but I think another highlight would help. I’ll try this technique on some more figures and I brought the rest of the Tamiya clear range to experiment with.

My next band of figures is some classic 25mm Grenadier Future Warriors Troopers. Lovely figures which I think were sculpted by Mark Copplestone and they go well with a lot of todays sci-fi figures, except the larger scaled 40K stuff.

I’m using them in P28 as a group of Space Cops or New Order Enforcers in Mutants and Death Ray Guns

I was meant to put number decals on the yellow discs, but you can see I missed a few!

An old figure from the “Spacelord” range owned by EM4 Miniatures now, which I think is the Space Crews Security officer. It goes very well with the Grenadier figures.

And a Stargrave plastic crew figure at the back which again makes well with the Grenadier figures

Meanwhile I’ve been working on a couple of ships.

The first ship is a TA-12 which was downloaded from Thingverse. I sprayed it with white primer and then sanded it and added some greebles and plasticard to break up the surfaces, and cover the worst of the 3d Print lines.

The second ship is from Imperial terrain and is a more of a Star wars style model. I kept it standard except for the guns/probes, which snapped during cleanup, so they were replaced with something more durable.

I didn’t take a photo before undercoating, and here is both ships are being given a coat if US Insigna White.

Nifty!ย  Imperial Terrain has some good stuff.ย  Between them and 2nd Dynasty there are some great FDM printable 28mm shuttles and small ships out there.

What printer did you use for you models?

Yes they are great and they stuff is well designed for FDM printing. I’ve got an older Anet A8 (more of an AM8 now with new extruder and hotend). I mostly print at 0.16mm and 0.12mm layer height which reduces the visible layers and prep time.

My completed spaceships. The decals were random ones from my collection and mostly ww2 decals

As you can see they barely fit on my landing platform ๐Ÿ˜‰

They really look good all painted up.ย  How long did they take to print?

Looks like you need a bigger platform!

    Thanks

They were all modular with the cargo parts made up of lots of pieces. I think the longest print was the front half of the Stars wars ship, which took about 24hours.

Here’s a sweet ride for the Space Cops. Its a Mantic GPCS Mule and I like the aesthetics of the vehicle ans its a nice easy model to assemble.

I painted in Mig RAL 8020 Gelbbraun as I had some left over from an Afrika Korp project. The decals are all from various 1/72 model kits.

Here’s my mutants for Planet28 games. The figures kitbashed from lots of different sources with the Hobbit goblins figures being the most useful. Any questions on which bits I used, just ask.

Here’s some of my spaceship crew. They are all Stargrave figures and lovely clean sculpts.

I was trying some different sized bases as 25mm can be too small so I 3D printed 27mm bases, which I used on the 2 right figures, but I think these are too wide, and I will stick with 25mm or 26mm bases. Surprisingly the extra 1mm diameter of base makes quite a difference to the look and there is no bevel on the 3D printed base.

I tend to use 2p pieces. Actually they have a heft to them and give solidity to a plastic figure. ๐Ÿ™‚
